Some tragic news out of San Francisco, where a community is mourning a family man who was killed while trying to protect his mother from an armed robber. Police are asking for the public's help finding the killer.

Robber Kills San Francisco Man Trying To Protect His Mother

33-year-old Da Cong Wu, a husband and father of two, was visiting a friend in San Francisco's Visitacion Valley neighborhood last Tuesday when a robber "stuck a gun in his mother's face." He hurried his mother into his car and tried to drive away, but the robber fired into the car and shot him seven times.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Teng Fang can't believe it. Her husband, Da Cong Wu, was with his mother Tuesday night, visiting a friend at the intersection of Sunnydale Ave. and Sawyer Street. That was where a robber stuck a gun in his mother's face.

According to family members, Da Cong Wu hustled his mother into his car. He tried to drive off, but the robber fired seven shots into the car.

Wu was declared dead at the scene and the killer got away.

"I have been here two years," Fang said. "I know nothing. No English. No friends. No relatives. Without my husband, it is the same as losing both my eyes."

Police say the shooting was random, and are calling it robbery gone wrong.

The suspect remains at large. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call San Francisco Police at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the start of the message.

Meanwhile, community members have started raising money on behalf of Wu's family, to help pay for funeral costs and rent. For more information on how to donate, go here.
