Angry Reader of the Week: Lena Khan

"I'm all about trying. I don't know if everything succeeds, but I try a lot."

Greetings, good people of the internet. It is time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Lena Khan.

Who are you?

Lena Khan. Big fan of chocolate chip cookies.

What are you?

I’m a writer and director. My first film, The Tiger Hunter, hits theaters nationwide this September 22nd weekend.

I’m someone who likes people. I like to learn about people. I like people to learn to like other people. And I hope my films make people laugh while they're actually learning to do that... even if they don't realize it.

Where are you?

I'm on a couch at my in-law's house, where I made sure I could make time to go, so that I could actually make some family time in-between spending a bazillion hours a day promoting my film and trying to get people to buy tickets... because even though we were lucky and my film got a massively huge release -- we still have a small promotional budget!

Where are you from?

I'm from Canada. I am reminded of this often these days as I try to fast track my passport application so that I can direct television in Canada. But, if this question is asking what people usually are asking... I'm Canadian-American, my parents are from India, and I grew up in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

What do you do?

I make projects -- movies and TV mostly, but some other media forms as well -- that try to shine a little light on people and issues that need a little attention... but in fun and entertaining ways. My film, The Tiger Hunter, had those reasons at its heart as well. It's a fun and heartfelt story about an immigrant and his ambitions, and even though it's a comedy -- it became such a timely film in today's social reality of Muslim bans and immigration anger. It's a film with diversity in the cast, the story, and the filmmakers -- ranging from women producers to a Muslim director. I couldn't be more excited, and I'm really hoping folks come out to support in our crucial first weekend. Tickets and info, by the way, are at www.thetigerhunter.com!

What are you all about?

I'm all about trying. I don't know if everything succeeds, but I try a lot. I try to make my job a means of hopefully helping society and people. I try to be a person of integrity. I try to contribute something to the world. I try to be better than I am, and I hope I'm sort of getting somewhere in that goal.

What makes you angry?

Injustice, people being inconsiderate and nuts put in otherwise perfectly yummy chocolate chip yummies.
