austin asian film festival, november 8-11

Austin! You've got a film festival too! The 4th Annual Austin Asian Film Festival kicks off tonight its Opening Night presentation of Lou Ye's Summer Palace. The film made headlines last year when director Lou Ye was banned from filmmaking for five years by the China government. See what all the fuss is about. Austin is still a relatively young festival, but has still managed to piece together a pretty interesting program. The festival runs through November 11, culminating in the Closing Night screening of Satyajit Ray's 1960 film Devi.
