2010 census family portrait contest

Okay, I've talked a lot about the 2010 Census, and how it's really important for all of us in our community to stand up, be counted, and send back your completed Census form. It only happens every ten years, and the next count will occur on April 1, 2010.

In short, the 2010 Census will help communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds, for things like hospitals, schools, emergency services, etc. It'll also help determine the number of seats your state has in the House Representatives. It's extremely important that we're accurately counted as a piece of that pie.

In an effort to encourage getting your Census on, I've haphazardly dreamed up a fun little contest. This week, send me a photo of you (and/or members of your household -- mom, dad, the kids, the whole family!) holding up your Census form, like in the photo above. If you've already sent in your form, hold up a sign that says "I COUNT" or "WE COUNT." (We'll operate on the honor system. I trust you.)

Every day, I'll try to post the photos here (depending on how many I actually receive), to create a fun little Census family portrait gallery. At the end of the week, I'll pick ten entries at random. The lucky winners will receive a limited edition Angry Asian Man t-shirt, courtesy of our pal Jerry Ma at Epic Proportions.

Email me your photo by the end of Friday, March 26, along with your name, mailing address and t-shirt size (Epic has women's sizes too). Please include "MY CENSUS PHOTO" in the subject line. Good luck, spread the word, and make sure you send in those Census forms! For more information about APIs and the 2010 Census, go to API Count and Fill in Our Future.
