Josh sends me this awful, lame-ass video he posted on his blog. It's a couple of years old, but he recently saw it playing at an airport, so it's running in rotation somewhere. Bear in mind, this commercial is supposed to make you want to visit Detroit. Take a look:
The story: dude makes the mistake of meeting his girlfriend's stereotypically Oriental parents the same weekend his friends are "rockin' in the D." It's so bad it hurts, on many, many levels. This racism comes to you courtesy of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Perhaps what hurts most is the fact that someone actually spent money to make this awful spot. The city of Detroit is in bad shape as it is -- it's not like they've got a lot of surplus cash laying around. Someone actually gave the green light for this commercial?
Come to beautiful Detroit! Where their assholes are even worse than the assholes in your city! I wasn't rushing out and making plans to hang out in the "D" in the first place... but if this is the best tourism marketing they can come up with, Detroit is in bigger trouble than we all thought.
