oca and hep b free partner with nordstrom for apa heritage month and hepitatis b awareness

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Hep B Free and OCA are partnering with Nordstrom to help raise awareness of the importance of getting tested for hepatitis B -- the leading cause of liver cancer and one of the greatest health disparities facing our community.

According to Hep B Free, one in ten Asian Americans is chronically infected with hepatitis B, versus one in 1,000 of the general population. That disparity is pretty staggering. In April, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released its national HHS Action Plan to Reduce Health Disparities, listing the elimination of hepatitis B as a priority.

To help people learn more about prevention, early detection and treatment of chronic hepatitis B, Nordstrom has launched an initiative called Living Well, which provides an opportunity to take action and get informed. The site also includes the stories of real people who have been impacted by hepatitis B.

Additionally, for every person who completes a hepatitis B awareness quiz in May at www.nordstrom.com/apahm, Nordstrom will make a $35 donation to Hep B Free, up to $75,000. Check out the website here. And learn more about the Hep B Free campaign here.
