San Francisco police seek suspect in Mother's Day beating

77-year-old woman in critical condition after attack in Chinatown.



In San Francisco, police are asking for the public's help searching for an assault suspect who attacked a 77-year-old woman in Chinatown on Mother's Day, leaving her in critical condition.

According to investigators, the incident happened between noon and 2:30 PM on May 10 after the victim, an elderly Asian woman, got off a MUNI bus in Chinatown, possibly on Stockton Street.

The victim was reportedly struck by a female assailant at least twice in the head. Investigators say that a Good Samaritan came to her aid, helping her move away from the side of the bus and sit on the curb until she was able to walk home. Three days after the assault, the woman's family found her unconscious at home.

Investigators from the SFPD Major Crimes Unit are asking for the public to assist them in the investigation of an assault that occurred on May 10, 2015. The victim, a 77 year old Asian female, was exiting a MUNI bus when she was assaulted by the suspect, who reportedly struck the victim at least twice on the head. The suspect was described as a black female.

Investigators believe that at least one Good Samaritan came upon the scene and assisted the victim by moving her away from the side of the MUNI bus and into a seated position on the sidewalk. The Good Samaritan is believed to be a white male. Investigators would like to speak with him or anyone who may have witnessed this crime.

The incident is believed to have occurred between 12:00 P.M. and 2:30 P.M. on May 10th in the area Chinatown area, possibly on Stockton Street. The victim is a frequent rider of the following MUNI lines: 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, 30 Stockton and the 45 Union / Stockton, often traveling between the Japan town and the China town neighborhoods. She is currently hospitalized with life threatening injuries.

According to the victim's granddaughter, Connie Ho, her grandmother is now in a coma and will likely never regain consciousness. She posted the following message on social media:

Hello friends of San Francisco. On May 10th, Mother's Day, my grandma was struck in the head by an African American woman in SF Chinatown. My grandma is now in a coma in ICU and will never regain consciousness to see her family again. She is leaving our family very soon and I ask of your help to come forward if you or anyone you may know that witnessed this. To the Good Samaritan that helped my grandma, please reach out to us. Investigators are interested in talking to anyone who may have seen the victim that day, especially the Good Samaritan who helped her.
