Ken Jeong's 'Dr. Ken' Gets Full-Season Order By ABC

Inspired by Jeong's real life as a doctor, he stars as Dr. Ken Park, a physician with bad bedside manner trying to juggle medicine and being a family man to his wife and kids -- and not quite succeeding on either front.

The freshman multi-camera comedy has made a surprisingly strong showing in its Friday night time slot.

The show, from Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios, has been surprisingly resilient on the slow Friday night. For the past two weeks, it has held at a 1.3 Live+Same Day rating among adults 18-49, holding on to 100% of its Last Man Standing lead-in. The newbie has delivered the strongest lead-in retention ever for a comedy out of Last Man Standing on the night; it is improving the 8:30 PM slot by 25% year-to-year to rank as ABC's top-rated comedy in the time period in three years and it’s more than doubling its freshman comedy competition on NBC. On average, Dr. Ken is drawing 6.6 million viewers and a 1.5 among adults 18-49 in most current ratings.

So you can look forward to twenty-two episodes with the Park family and the Welltopia gang. Dr. Ken joins its fellow Asian American family on Fresh Off The Boat, which also recently got a back nine order for its second season. More Asian Americans on TV. More Asian Americans on TV.
