No Ban, No Wall: A Resistance & Solidarity Vigil

Thursday, January 26 at JACCC in Los Angeles

Trump is signing executive orders to ban access to USA for people from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen tomorrow. He is following through on his commitment to build a wall banning and deporting immigrants. The President and the Office continue to promote an agenda of hate and oppression.

If you're in Los Angeles, you're invited to join in solidarity with the #VigilantLOVE Coalition and South Asians for Justice - Los Angeles for a solidarity & resistance vigil against Islamophobia, state violence, and xenophobia.

It's happening Thursday evening, January 26 at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo. Here are some more details.

Mandeep Sethi X, hip hop artist

Where: Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC) Plaza, 244 S. San Pedro St., Los Angeles, CA 90012

Why: In the face of a series of Executive Orders announced this week, including the orders to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico Border and formalize a ban on Muslim immigrants and refugees, we gather to reject Islamophobia, xenophobia, and state violence. The Muslim Ban restricts refugee admissions and denies visas for immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries: Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. It also expands on a biometric entry-exit system. History has shown us that anti-Asian immigration exclusion acts in the late 1800s and early 1900s and Japanese American internment were divisive, ineffective, and harmful policies of racism and hate. Instead of fear, we come together and light candles in resistance and love. We redefine security as care, support, and protection for each other. We call on the city of Los Angeles and the state of California to remain a sanctuary space for all immigrants, refugees, and DACA-mented young people. As a sanctuary state, we demand that California, its cities, and law enforcement agencies refuse collaboration with ICE.
