Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. What do you do?
I'm an agent at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in our corporate development and international department. I work primarily with our whip-smart team in the Beijing office, but also cover quite a bit of our business efforts in APAC -- I have the privilege of representing incredible and talented clients from all corners of the world. And also working at all hours.
Outside work, I have an amazing partner and team building a fashion brand and creative studio called Goodfight. We believe in true art and the power of human value.
As someone that faithfully shopped at Old Navy until an embarrassing age, it has been a humbling, but amazing and eye-opening process. I feel a bit like Jared from the show Silicon Valley in meetings. "SWOT analysis, anyone?"
What are you all about?
I'm all about problem solving and creating spaces, structures, and vehicles where excellent stories and unique perspectives can be told -- and where you can still make money (or not lose too much). I'm a praying woman, but not passive -- I'm a firm believer that faith cannot go hand in hand with bigotry, greed, violence, and inequality -- as well as complacency and backseat altruism. I believe that kindness is the most underrated trait in corporate America.
I'm about standing up and leaning in; There are fantastic organizations (CAPE, GOLDHOUSE, RUN, VC) making incredible headway in the AAPI Entertainment and Media community, but more mentors raising their hands and leaning in is sorely needed. And most recently, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which has been kicking my ass, but also teaching me the value of patience, using what you have, and breathing.
What makes you angry?
Systemic injustice and their root causes like the wealth gap, racism, human trafficking -- and then things like agricultural subsidies, IP infringement -- legitimately angry about that. Really.
I don't mind assholes, but can't tolerate folks that don't ever turn it off. Shortcuts that don't respect the process (quality takes time). People that smash and pass— brute force will only take you (not) so far.
