Angry Reader of the Week: Laura Sirikul

"I'm a huge geek and very proud to be one."

Hey, everybody! It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Laura Sirikul.

Who are you?

I'm Laura Sirikul. As a cosplayer, I can become anyone. Well, at least, that's the goal of cosplay.

People may know me on Twitter as @lsirikul.

What are you?

I am a proud Thai-American woman who loves the Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, geek culture, cosplay, drawing, musicals, traveling, laughing, bunnies, food, watching television, and being on social media a little too much.

I'm a huge geek and very proud to be one.

I'm also really a peppy person because life is too damn short to be sad.

Where are you?

I'm at home with a cold that I caught in London over New Year's. #hunblebrag

Where are you from?

Born from two amazing, strong parents who immigrated from Thailand to New York for a better life for themselves and their future children. I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island and Los Angeles. Now, I'm here in Los Angeles and I will never will leave this weather... Unless I get an amazing job offer in London. Then, I'd reconsider everything.

What do you do?

I'm a researcher, writer, and editor. I do freelance entertainment and scientific pieces, as well as video hosting for media outlets.

You can find me always on Twitter sharing my opinions and pitching ideas to blogs/outlets.

What are you all about?

I'm all about the PORG life. Those porgs (from Star Wars: The Last Jedi) will be the death of me.

I'm all about choosing kindness. We didn't choose where we were born, who we were born to, our sexuality, or our gender. But, we can choose to be kind.

I'm all about the Asian pride. I have so much pride when seeing my fellow Asians do well. When I see Kelly Marie Tran in Star Wars and Michelle Yeoh on Star Trek: Discovery, I am beaming with pride. We need to lift each other up. There are too many outsiders trying to knock us down. Let's not do that to each other.

What makes you angry?

* LA traffic
* Bad TV Tropes
* Films & TV with Asian stereotypes
* Overzealous fanboys who claim fandoms as their own
* White privilege
* Lack of respect for the elderly & traditions in cultures
* The unrealistic ideals of what an Asian beauty is
* People who leave out South & Southeast Asian out of the "Asian" conversation
* People who tell me they love Thai food immediately when they find out I'm Thai. I get it though. Thai food is delicious.
* This damn cold.
