May your daughters grow up to be badass snowboarders

Super Bowl commercial pays tribute to the sacrifices of snowboarder Chloe Kim's dad.

Behind so many great athletes, there's a parent who made a thousand sacrifices. In the case of 17-year-old champion snowboarder Chloe Kim, it was her dad Jong-Jin Kim, whose love and dedication to his Olympic-bound daughter are highlighted in this moving Super Bowl commercial for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

And whooo, it tugs at the heartstrings.

In the 60-second spot, set to Ray Charles' rendition of "America the Beautiful," we see Mr. Kim arriving late to pick up Chloe for snowboarding practice. We later seen him leave his job in order to support his daughter's snowboarding career full time. After that, he's there every step of the way, from practice to rides to competition.

The commercial closes with Chloe driving home from a competition, with her father happily asleep in the passenger seat, holding her trophy. Damn, I'm getting a little choked up while just writing about it.

The Nefarious Chinese Are Taking Over American Farms!

...according to this xenophobic Missouri political ad.

Well, this is... unsurprising. We are now in the muckiest thick of election season, so you know what that means. Blame China! For everything. In a fairly typical move out the campaign playbook, this racist, xenophobic, fear-mongering political ad for Missouri's state attorney general race goes there, with America's farms at stake.

The subtitled 30-second spot features a rather nefarious-looking Chinese businessman bragging to another in Mandarin about how he was able to buy a Missouri farm after state senator Kurt Schaefer, a Republican candidate for attorney general, helped changed a state law allowing foreign ownership of farms.

"Now we own thousands of acres in Missouri," the businessman says, arms raised, "and can buy more."

Did I just see Olivia Munn slice a car in half?

See Psylocke in action in the new 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Super Bowl commercial.

All right, X-fans. In case you missed it, here is the indisputable money shot from the new trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, which premiered during the Super Bowl. Yes, that's Olivia Munn as Psylocke acrobatically slicing a flying automobile in half with her muthaeffin' psychic blade. Boom. That's all I needed to see. Sold.

Oh, here's the full Super Bowl spot:

Southwest University's Super Bowl ad promises 'Happy Ending'

Texas college's commercial, which aired during the big game, was set in an Asian massage parlor.

Oh hell no. There were a lot of lousy commercials than ran during Super Bowl Sunday, but this local ad for Southwest University, set in an Asian massage parlor, easily has to be one of the worst.

The one-minute spot features two loser white dudes getting their backs rubbed at a massage parlor. Lanterns, dragons, gongs, wind flutes, all that garbage. The guys complain that carrying around textbooks has done a number on their backs. Meanwhile, the masseuses converse in Mandarin -- white people are always very concerned that we Asians are talking shit about them in our secret language -- suggesting that these idiots should have gone to Southwest, where you don't have to lug around books because everything's on an iPad.

And then the ad ends with the declaration: "Southwest University. HAPPY ENDING INCLUDED." Classy.

Commercial features J.R. Celski's path to Olympic glory

Behind every big moment, there are lots of small ones.

If you've been watching coverage of the Winter Olympics, you've probably seen a series of commercials for TD Ameritrade that incorporate vintage videos of several Olympic athletes. This one, featuring short-track speed skater J.R. Celski's career and life in reverse, shows that his path towards Olympic glory started long before he hit the ice Sochi. Check it out:

Bounty commercial stars Olympian Julie Chu (and her mom)

U.S. ice hockey medalist heads to Sochi for her fourth Winter Olympics

Been seeing this cool commercial for Bounty, featuring Olympic medalist Julie Chu of the U.S. women's ice hockey team... and her mom. The three-time Olympian returns to the squad to represent the United States next month at Sochi, no doubt looking for a gold medal to go with the two silvers and a bronze she's already collected. But first, she's got to tell you about those super-absorbent sheets of Bounty:

Your son becomes a man in this weird Old Spice commercial

"Old Spice! Look what you've done!"

Old Spice makes weird, offbeat commercials. We know this. Its latest "Smellcome to Manhood" campaign features mothers lamenting that the deodorant/man freshener brand has turned their boys into men. Case in point, this bizarre commercial featuring a smooth Asian dude and his girlfriend at the bowling alley... plus his undercover Asian mom, singing "Old Spice! Look what you've done!" Take a look:

This law firm specializes in personal injury... and really racist commercials.

The shit could not be more racist if it tried.

What the fuuuuhuuuhhhck. Is this for real? This claims to be an actual commercial for a law firm, McCutcheon & Hamner, based in Florence, Alabama. The firm specializes in personal injury... and apparently, making really shitty racist commercials. This piece of garbage could not be more racist if it tried:

Bruce Lee is back... in a Johnnie Walker commercial?

Holy moly. Check out this new Chinese commercial for Johnnie Walker Blue Label, directed by Joseph Kahn... and starring Bruce Lee. Shot in Hong Kong and created by London visual effects company The Mill, they've taken great detail and care -- including the blessing of daughter Shannon Lee -- to digitally bring Bruce back to life. And it's kind of eerie:

Look at all the Asians in this McDonald's commercial

Been seeing this on McDonald's commercial playing a lot lately... First time I saw it, I had to double check to see if I'd been watching one of the local Asian language channels. Nope. This "Flavor Cravers" ad is airing on regular English-language broadcast channels (I saw it on ESPN2). And it features what has to be the most Asian folks I've ever seen in a single McDonald's spot. Take a look:

Ryan Lee Chiropractic Center. Gentle. Comfortable. Professional.

I don't know what it is, but I'm a little bit obsessed with this video... It's a funny TV commercial for Ryan Lee Chiropractic Center in Los Angeles, in that signature Rhett & Link style -- wonderfully awkward, decidedly low-budget and hilariously offbeat. Yes, this is a real, official commercial for an actual local business. I kind of love all the cracking. Take a look:

What language are they speaking in these weird Asian Microsoft ads?

What the heck is up with these Microsoft ads? This Mashable post points out a series of weird ads promoting Windows 8 in Asia. Aside from all the Wacky Asian Craziness the commercials employ to illustrate Windows' power and versatility, there seems to be some confusion over what language the actors in these ads are actually speaking -- neither Japanese nor Korean nor Mandarin nor Cantonese. It's some kind of garbled Asian Wah Wah speak:

General Motors pulls "ching, ching, chop-suey" commercial

Car manufacturer General Motors has pulled a global television commercial because it happens to use the most racist vintage song ever for its soundtrack: GM pulls 'racist' Chevrolet 'ching-ching, chop suey' ad.

Oops. The retro-styled commercial the Chevrolet Trax prominently features a swingin' song, "Booty Swing," by Austrian electroswing musician Parov Stelar. The song samples "Oriental Swing," recorded in 1938, which includes lyrics that make reference to "the land of Fu Manchu" and "ching-ching, chop suey." Whaaaaa?

I'm sure that was cute in 1938. To be fair, you probably wouldn't catch the words if you weren't listening carefully. Here's video of the commercial:

Far East Movement turns up the love in this HTC One spot

Oh snap! It's our friends Far East Movement and their song "Turn Up the Love," all of a sudden all over the TV in this commercial for the new HTC One campaign. I first saw the spot on MTV, but then I started seeing it nonstop everywhere. Heck, it just played on the tube as I was writing this. No joke! Because FM's music sounds better with BoomSound, duel speakers with built-in amplifiers:

TD Ameritrade commercial: Bob the Architect/Vampire

Been seeing a lot of this commercial featuring an Asian American family... In this fun spot for TD Ameritrade, Bob, "an architect with two kids and a mortgage," considers reasonable retirement planning that won't require him to retire at age 153 -- vampire age. Take a look:

Amy Poehler and the Helpful Best Buy Employee

Sat through lots of ads during the Super Bowl, but the one that kind of stood out for me was this spot for Best Buy, which prominently featured this regular Asian dude alongside the funny and fabulous Amy Poehler. That's actor Jake Choi as the helpful Blue Shirt expert employee. Check it out:

Psy to star in Super Bowl commercial

I suppose PSY's insane pop culture takeover would not be complete without an appearance during the Super Bowl. The South Korean rapper behind the global pop mega hit "Gangnam Stye" has reportedly filmed his first U.S. television commercial with Wonderful Pistachios as part of the brand's "Get Crackin'" campaign, which you'll see aired next month during the big game: 'Gangnam' star Psy to star in Super Bowl ad.
