2016 V3Con Digital Media Conference

Saturday, June 25 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles



The fifth annual V3Con Digital Media Conference, presented by the Los Angeles Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association, celebrates Asian American contributions to media, digital media and culture. The event, which recognizes the "Vision. Visibility. Voice." of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the digital and social media fields, will bring together the biggest influencers and experts for a day of panel discussions and hands-on workshops in which attendees will build and learn about the latest new media skills.

It's happening June 24 and 25 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.

Altered Egos: Gospel, Pop Culture + Asian American Identity

Saturday, May 21 at Fuller Theological Seminary



If you're in Southern California, the Asian American Initiative at Fuller Theological Seminary invites you to Altered Egos, a conference exploring the intersections between gospel, pop culture and Asian American identity with award-winning graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang. The event will also feature pop/soul band Tim Be Told and funk/pop band Ruth + The Library, as well as Jenny Yang, Margaret Yu, Jerome Mammen and myself.

Thriving Together: Queer APIs Building Community, Solidarity, & Movement



You are invited to join the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance for their largest, most diverse gathering of LGBTQ Asian Americans, South Asians, Southeast Asians, and Pacific Islanders next month at the NQAPIA 2015 National Conference. It's happening August 6-9 in Chicago.

Call for Proposals: National South Asian Summit 2015

SAALT accepting proposals for summit sessions, April 10-13, 2015 in Washington, DC



SAALT (South Asian Americans Leading Together) is now accepting community proposals for the National South Asian Summit 2015, which will convene South Asian organizations, advocates, and allies from across the United States on April 10-13 in Washington DC.

The National South Asian Summit is an opportunity for organizational leaders and community members to engage with policymakers and government agencies; participate in a learning environment; discuss emerging issues in the South Asian community and the country as a whole; and strategize to achieve best practices, discuss collective solutions, and agree to common principles using a progressive, social justice framework.

SAALT invites you to submit a proposal for a session at the Summit. Here's the full call for proposals:

Okaeri: A Nikkei LGBTQ Gathering

Saturday, November 15 at the Japanese American National Museum



OKAERI, meaning "Welcome Home" in Japanese, is a one-day gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning individuals, family and allies. It will be a day of connecting, education and storytelling in workshops and plenary sessions open to all LGBTQ persons and allies. 10th Annual Asian American Women in Leadership Conference

ASPIRE (Asian Sisters Participating in Reaching Excellence) is holding its 10th annual Asian American Women in Leadership Conference on November 1 in Boston. This year's theme is "Making It Count," a reflection on the ability to create change in workplace, school, and community. 6th Annual Advancing Justice Conference, September 25-26

Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Standing Together For Racial Justice



Community leaders and advocates will be gathering in DC next week for the sixth annual Advancing Justice Conference, the largest national conference focusing on civil and social justice issues impacting Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. It's happening September 25-26 at the Washington Hilton.

Whether you're a student, an activist, or just interested in a more equal America, the conference will including plenaries and workshops providing Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and our allies with the opportunity to strategize and mobilize so we can have a lasting impact on all the issues we care about.

I will be speaking on a panel during the Thursday morning session "The Shifting Media Landscape: Strategies That Work" with Olivia Chow, Adriel Luis, Sandhya Bathija and moderator Karin Wang.

40th Anniversary of Lau vs. Nichols Decision

National Conference on the Rights of Linguistic Minorities, September 12



If you're in San Francisco, scholars and educators will be gathering for a conference commemorating the 40th anniversary the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Lau vs. Nichols, a ruling that recognized the rights of linguistic minorities in public education. The conference will revisit the case and examine its impact on linguistic minorities and disabled Americans in education and other areas of public service. It's happening Friday, September 12 at the Chinatown Campus of City College of San Francisco.

CBD 2014 Youth Conference: "Breaking Barriers"

Sunday, August 17 at the Asian American/Asian Research Institute



This is for young folks in New York City... Chinatown Beautification Day began in 2003 as a project of the Chinatown Youth Initiative to address concerns that Manhattan's Lower East Side had become neglected in the aftermath of 9/11. CBD has evolved into a two-day event that includes a cleanup and conference, bringing together youth from all the around city for a unique learning experience.

The Youth Conference segment of Chinatown Beautification Day is happening this Sunday, August 17 at the Asian American/Asian Research Institute. There will be a variety of workshops, as well as words from keynote speaker Juliet Shen, the activist and writer behind Fascinasians.

The V3 Digital Media Conference, presented by AAJA-LA, returns to Los Angeles for a unique gathering dedicated to AAPI online journalists, creative social media communicators and those interested in engaging on digital platforms. It's happening June 21 at the Japanese American National Museum.

The conference kicks off with an Opening Awards Reception honoring NBC News' Ann Curry with the "Vision Award," Los Angeles Times food critic Jonathan Gold with the "Visibility Award," and singer Judith Hill with the "Voice Award."
