Monday, August 6 at UCB Inner Sanctum Cafe & Stage in Los Angeles.



Comedy fans in Los Angeles, you do not want to miss this one. In celebration of the upcoming theatrical release of Crazy Rich Asians, our friends at Asian AF have put together the Crazy Rich Asians Comedy Show, featuring standup from the stars of the Warner Bros. romantic comedy. The lineup includes Ken Jeong, Ronny Chieng, Nico Santos and Jimmy O. Yang, who are all part of the movie's cast.

This is going to be a blast. It's happening Monday, August 6 at the UCB Inner Sanctum Cafe & Stage in Los Angeles. Admission is free! But seating is first come, first served. So get there, and there early!

Ken Jeong jumps off stage to help woman suffering seizure

Jeong, a licensed physician, was in the middle of a standup set.



He took an oath, after all. Actor and comedian Ken Jeong was performing standup Saturday night when he stopped his set and jumped off stage to assist a woman in the audience who has having a seizure.

At first, he thought it was a heckler. Jeong was performing at the Stand Up Live Comedy Club in Phoenix when a disturbance from a woman in the third row interrupted his set. When the lights came on, it became clear that it was actually a medical emergency -- the woman was having an apparent seizure.

As it happened, there was a doctor in the house. On stage, actually.

Here we go. Who said there are no Asian American movie stars? After teasing us with a juicy sliver of footage last week, the full official trailer for Crazy Rich Asians has finally dropped. And it is hot damn glorious.

If you haven't heard about this movie, you will. Based on the bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan, and directed by Jon M. Chu, the contemporary fish-out-of-water romantic comedy is the first major Hollywood studio movie featuring an all-Asian cast in over 25 years. And judging from the trailer, it's going to be a blast.

Fresh Off The Boat's Constance Wu stars as Rachel Chu, a Chinese American economics professor who accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (newcomer Henry Golding), to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. But she soon learns that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. Not only is his family impossibly wealthy, he's perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.

New footage teases the upcoming full trailer for hotly anticipated romantic comedy.



At long last, here it is! Your first glimpse at the Crazy Rich Asians movie. The official full trailer drops on Monday, but Warner Bros. is first giving us a little tease of the hotly anticipated summer romantic comedy.

Based on the bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians follows Rachel Chu, an American-born Chinese economics professor, who travels to her boyfriend Nick's hometown of Singapore for his best friend's wedding. Before long, she learns his secret: Nick's family is rich. Crazy Rich. Not only is his family impossibly wealthy, he's perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.

How A Christmas Story Live! Made Its Chinese Restaurant Scene Less Racist

Live musical enlists the help of Ken Jeong and The Filharmonic.



From Vulture... When families and "You'll shoot your eye out!" obsessives gather 'round the old flat-screen to watch Fox's ambitious musical event, A Christmas Story Live!, they may notice a few adjustments to the beloved 1983 film that inspired the special.

...Fans of the movie will notice that the production deviates from an almost entirely white cast to include a more diverse group of performers, including Maya Rudolph as Ralphie's mother, David Alan Grier as the surly department-store Santa Claus, Fred Armisen as a store elf, Ken Jeong as a Christmas-tree salesman and Chinese-restaurant owner, and scores of other actors of color who appear as townspeople, Ralphie's classmates, and in a myriad song-and-dance numbers.

But the most noticeable update comes toward the end of the production, during the Chinese-restaurant scene when a group of Asian waiters sing "Deck the Halls" for Ralphie and his family on Christmas day. The original film depicted the waiters as performing the song with stereotypical mispronunciation, singing the song's refrain as "Fa ra ra ra ra" instead of "Fa la la la la." But in this version, the quintet -- in real life, the a cappella group Filharmonic -- performs the classic carol flawlessly.

ABC cancels 'Dr. Ken'

The Friday night sitcom, starring and executive produced by Ken Jeong, was not renewed for a third season.



Aw, dammit. It was fun while it lasted. One of television's few Asian American families will not be returning in the fall. After two seasons, ABC has canceled Dr. Ken, starring and executive produced by Ken Jeong.

Inspired by Jeong's real life and career as a medical doctor, the multi-camera Friday night comedy followed Dr. Ken Park, a physician with a bad beside manner trying to juggle practicing medicine at his HMO and being a family man to his wife and kids -- and not quite succeeding on either front.

Dr. Ken also starred the awesome Suzy Nakamura as Ken's wife Allison, Krista Marie Yu as daughter Molly, Albert Tsai as his son Dave, and Dana Lee as Ken's dad D.K. The cast was rounded out by Tisha Campbell-Martin as Damona, Jonathan Slavin as Clark and Dave Foley as Pat.

Less than a year after the much-hyped premiere of Fresh Off The Boat, which was widely celebrated as the first series to feature an Asian American family in two decades, Dr. Ken leapt on to ABC's schedule. Two Asian American families on TV? On the same friggin' network? Whaaaaaaat. And Dr. Ken offered a decidedly different inter-Asian, multi-generational take on the Asian American family comedy.

Good news for fans of Asian American families on television. The Parks will be back on ABC. The network has officially renewed the Ken Jeong comedy Dr. Ken for a second season.
