Are Asian Americans White? Or People of Color?
"Borrowing from W. E. B. Du Bois' color-line metaphor, some racial justice activists have asked whether Asian Americans are “left or right of the color line.” How we answer these questions bears important implications for movements for racial justice and equity. These are also questions that we have both confronted as womxn who are a second-generation queer Punjabi American and a second-generation Hong Konger American."

Why the Parasite cast deserves Oscars — and didn’t get nominated
While Bong Joon Ho's masterpiece Parasite racked up six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, the film's cast was conspicuously (and predictably) shut out. News flash: the Oscars don't have a particularly good track record of awarding actors in foreign-language films.

Oh yeah, heads up: Parasite is now available for purchase on digital platforms.

Awkwafina wins Golden Globe Award for 'The Farewell'

'The Farewell" star is the first woman of Asian descent to win a Golden Globe for lead actress in a comedy.

Nora Lum, better known by her stage name Awkwafina, made history at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for lead role in The Farewell.

The comedic rapper turned actress is the first woman of Asian descent to win a Golden Globe in the category.

The Farewell, written and directed by Lulu Wang, marks Awkwafina's dramatic lead debut. She stars as Billi, a Chinese American woman who travels back to China to say goodbye to her terminally grandmother -- whose family has chosen not to tell her that she's sick -- under the guise of a hastily planned wedding.

The Golden Globe marks Awkwafina's first nomination and first win at the annual awards ceremony, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Awkwafina nabs Golden Globe nomination for 'The Farewell'

But why is 'The Farewell' nominated for Best Foreign Language Film?

Nominations for the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, and as many predicted, Lulu Wang's indie hit The Farewell picked up a couple of nods, including a Best Actress nom for Awkwafina.

Golden Globes: Full List of Nominations

The rapper-turned-actress, aka Nora Lum, scored a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for her role as Billi, a Chinese American New Yorker who travels to China when her family puts on a fake wedding to say their final goodbyes to her terminally ill grandmother.

The Farewell also picked up a nomination, somewhat inexplicably, for Best Foreign Language Film.

See a different side of Awkwafina in 'The Farewell'

Writer/director Lulu Wang's moving family dramedy is "based on an actual lie."

Rapper and actress Awkwafina, aka Nora Lum, made a name for herself with funny-ass rhymes and scene-stealing performances in last summer's Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians. Now she's ready to make you cry.

Like, a lot.

In The Farewell, Awkwafina plays Billi, a New Yorker who travels back to China when she learns that her grandmother has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The problem: grandma has no idea that she's dying. Her family has decided not to tell her, fearing that the knowledge would accelerate her health's decline. (It's a Chinese thing.) Instead, under the guise of a cousin's wedding, the family gathers to say their final goodbye.

Here's the newly released trailer:

Awkwafina is hosting 'Saturday Night Live'

'Crazy Rich Asians' and 'Ocean's 8' star will be the first Asian American woman to host in 18 years.

Rapper/actress Awakwafina, recently seen stealing scene after scene as Peik Lin Goh in the box office smash Crazy Rich Asians, will host the upcoming October 6 episode of Saturday Night Live.

By our rough count, that makes Awkwafina -- aka Queens-bred Nora Lum -- one of only a handful of Asian American hosts in the perennial NBC sketch show's 43-plus-season, 851-episode history. In fact, it's been eighteen years since an Asian American woman hosted SNL: Lucy Liu appeared on December 16, 2000.

Saturday Night Live officially announced the lineup Thursday on Twitter, sharing a photo of Post-It notes listing the first three hosts and musical acts of the upcoming 44th season.

The Crazy Rich Asians trailer is here. And you are not ready.

"The only thing crazier than love is family."

Here we go. Who said there are no Asian American movie stars? After teasing us with a juicy sliver of footage last week, the full official trailer for Crazy Rich Asians has finally dropped. And it is hot damn glorious.

Chu, the contemporary fish-out-of-water romantic comedy is the first major Hollywood studio movie featuring an all-Asian cast in over 25 years. And judging from the trailer, it's going to be a blast.

Fresh Off The Boat's Constance Wu stars as Rachel Chu, a Chinese American economics professor who accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young (newcomer Henry Golding), to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. But she soon learns that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. Not only is his family impossibly wealthy, he's perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.

Big names in announcement include Oscar winners Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway as well as notable names like Helena Bonham-Carter and Rihanna.
