John Cho cast in indie thriller 'Gemini'

Add this one to the list of films actually #StarringJohnCho... John Cho has signed on to star alongside Lola Kirke and Zoe Kravitz in the indie thriller Gemini, from award-winning writer/director Aaron Katz.

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but I'm told that Cho has the most significant male role in the film. So far, all we know is that it's a thriller set in Los Angeles, where principal photography has already begun.

In addition to Cho, there are three other Asian characters in Gemini, played by Greta Lee, Abraham Lim and Levy Tran. The film's ensemble also includes Ricki Lake, Michelle Forbes, Nelson Franklin, Reeve Carney, Jessica Parker Kennedy and James Ransone.

Tze Chun's Cold Comes The Night in theaters & VOD

The indie thriller Cold Comes The Night, co-written and directed by Tze Chun, opens in theaters and is available on VOD on Friday, January 10. It's a cool little crime drama starring Bryan Cranston, Alice Eve and Logan Marshall-Green, about desperate people caught up in a desperate situation... and of course, a bundle of money. And it's been getting some great reviews. I've seen it, and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Oh snap. Almost missed this while I was on vacation last week... For fans of Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston, check him out in the trailer for the upcoming thriller Cold Comes The Night, directed by Tze Chun.

Alice Eve stars as a motel worker struggling to make ends meet. When she finds a dead body and a bag of money in one of the motel rooms, she and her young daughter are taken hostage by a Russian criminal (Cranston) who comes calling for the money. Take a look:

2013 film independent spirit awards nominees announced

Nominations for the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which honor achievements in independent filmmaking, were announced this morning: 'Moonrise Kingdom,' 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' Top Indie Spirit Awards Nominations.

As expected, critical darlings Moonrise Kingdom and Beasts of the Southern Wild lead the pack with the most nods, but for the purposes of this website, there are a few names to note...

Huge shout out goes to friend of this blog (and former Angry Reader of the Week) Mynette Louie, who is nominated for the 16th Annual Piaget Producers Awards for her awesome movie producing skillz. Yes, with a "z."

This is some awesome indie film news... Bryan Cranston, Alice Eve and Logan Marshall Green have signed on to star in the crime drama Eye of Winter, to be directed by Tze Chun: Bryan Cranston, Alice Eve board 'Winter' indie.

The film, co-written by Tze, Osgood Perkins and Nick Simon, is about a woman and her daughter who are taken hostage by a nearly blind career criminal to be his eyes as he attempts to retrieve his cash package from a crooked cop.

I'm a huge fan of Tze's work, and the story sounds really cool. And frankly, I'd watch Bryan Cranston in pretty much anything:
