Lawsuit accuses engineering firm of negligence, wrongful termination and infliction of emotional distress.

Grace and Matt Huang, the American couple that was wrongly accused and imprisoned in Qatar for the death of their daughter, were finally freed and returned home to California last week. This week, they filed a lawsuit against the engineering firm that sent them overseas, alleging that the company failed to provide security or cultural training to help them survive in a country where mixed-race families are not accepted.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses engineering firm MWH Global of negligence, wrongful termination and infliction of emotional distress. The Huangs say they unknowingly arrived in a country where adoption is prohibited and East Asians are regarded as one of the lowest "racial classes of individual." When their legal troubles arose, the Huangs say the company abandoned them and forced Matt to quit his job.

Advocates for the couple say that the video was meant to raise awareness and help with fundraising for the defense and exoneration of the couple, who have been forbidden from leaving Qatar.

Qatar court finds American couple guilty in death of daughter

Prosecutors accused Matt and Grace Huang of starving their adopted daughter to harvest her organs

Some awful developments out of Qatar, where we've been following the story of an American couple on trial, accused of killing their child. Matthew and Grace Huang have been found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison for the death of their 8-year-old adopted daughter.

Qatari court finds American couple guilty in death of adopted daughter

The judge did not specify the exact charge for which they were convicted. But prosecutors accused the Huangs of fatally starving their daughter Gloria, who was adopted from Ghana, so that they could harvest her organs. But they say she died from complications related to an eating disorder.

The Huangs and their three young children -- Gloria and two sons, all adopted -- moved to Qatar in 2012. By Qatari standards, they're an unconventional family, which apparently fueled investigators' suspicions. Prosecutors were apparently unable to grasp why an Asian American couple could possibly want African children -- except for nefarious purposes.

Free Matt and Grace Huang

I've heard from several people informing me of the plight of Grace and Matt Huang, a married couple from Southern California who have been imprisoned in Qatar on a charge of murder with intent. They are accused of starving their 8-year-old adopted daughter to death. However, their supporters say they have been wrongly accused and falsely imprisoned, and the case is a tragic result of faulty science and racial and cultural misunderstandings: Matt Huang, Grace Huang Accused Of Starving Adopted Daughter To Death.

The Huangs were arrested shortly after their daughter, Gloria, died on January 15. The whole situation is terribly tragic, but according to the California Innocence Project, their imprisonment is a miscarriage of justice. Here is the narrative of case, as explained by the website Free Matt & Grace:
