Trump channels Buddha in deeply felt letter to America

Guest Post by Vishavjit Singh

Dear America,

We live in a time of tremendous upheaval and tumult in this great nation of ours. Jobs are gone, illegal immigration is exhausting our resources, Islamic terrorism is blowing our minds away, Barack Hussein Obama has been in power for almost 8 years. I can go on and on.

At this time, I appeared on the scene not to divide America but to unite it.

The only way I know we can do this is to be in the moment. To be spontaneous. To be transparent. To be a mirror unto ourselves. To be honest with our own selves. To lay bare all our emotions. To strip off our masks.

Only then we can work towards bringing a Huuuuuuuge positive change. A quiet revolution.

A Really Sikh and Hairy Online Store Launch!

Guest Post by Vishavjit Singh

By popular demand from fans of some really Sikh art at Sikhtoons.com, an online bazaar has been launched to offer a special collection of art for your visual entertainment, to make a statement and spark lively conversations.

The current political climate in the US and around the globe is ripe for some fun, edgy, humor laden turbanful and beardful art.

The store offers over three dozen products including t-shirts, prints, framed art, spiral notebooks, phone covers, duvet covers, pillows, mugs, tote bags, greeting cards and much more for all occasions and needs.

You don’t need to be Sikh or sport a turban and beard to enjoy the products in this store. You just need an impulse to appreciate art, wrap your head around turbans (metaphorically or literally) and be ready to get a little Sikh.

Kosher Menu to 'Make America Great'

Guest Post by Vishavjit Singh

The old saying goes a way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Latest neuroscience research is beginning to show this old adage rooted in actual science. What goes into our stomachs has neurological impacts in our brain. The way to a bigoted man's heart is also through his stomach. Well even bigoted women. All the snap judgments thrown my way by strangers and family, recent turbaned encounters of designer Waris Ahluwalia in Mexico City, Canadian comedian JusReign in San Francisco and the cantankerous Presidential campaign has really reinforced me to think about what brings me the most joy, food. Here is a menu of flavorful concoctions from my 'Make America Great' concept vegetarian restaurant in NYC where I am hotly seeking a Michelin star.

1984: When death paid me a visit

Guest Post by Vishavjit Singh

I'm on vacation! This week, I'm taking a much-needed break to recharge the batteries and get a change of scenery. To keep things going around here, I've enlisted the help of several friends of the blog to submit guest posts on various topics of their choosing. Here's cartoonist Vishavjit Singh.

"To the living we owe respect, but to the dead we owe only the truth." - Voltaire

Death is one of the few constants in life. It waits for every one of us. We find ways to ignore it, battle it, make attempts to prolong its arrival but come it does. We grudgingly accept its inevitability but there are times that death makes it appearance in ways for us to hold its couriers in contempt. Times when a few of our species sink into the depths of darkness to orchestrate, execute plans of the most sinister kind to snatch innocent lives. This death haunts us with its memories long after its departure.

Death of this kind paid a visit thirty-one years ago in the first few days of November to my family home. I was far away from Washington DC, the city of my birth residing with my family in a two bedroom apartment in one of oldest capitals in the world, Delhi in India.

American Pathology: A Cartoon by Vishavjit Singh

#charlestonshooting #domesticterrorism

Artist's Statement:

The tragedy in Charleston, South Carolina is troubling enough, but in many ways what has been revealed and transpired since as a response is indicative of a deeper malady. As a cartoonist, there are so many threads to catch on here and beat on a culprit, be it the perpetrator, right wingers, supremacist groups, political forces............ But ultimately it is our collective pathology to acknowledge, recognize and ultimately heal.

Oh No! A turbaned, bearded Sikh dude is appearing across Facebook timelines talking about the Like feature. God save America!

Guest Post by Vishavjit Singh

Having the first black president has not settled well with the digestive tracks of many a folks in this great union of ours. And now with the overlords at Facebook deciding to feature me, a turbaned and bearded American in one of its 30 second newsfeed tips spot, it is creating a rumble in the mental bowels of some folks across the social network. The ad first ran in November last year and now is doing expanded rounds of timelines across the U.S.

There is no instant cure for these maladies. Passage of time with repetitive dose of reality is the best prescriptive course.

I am taking the extra step to intervene with 20 of these fellow Americans who spoke their mind in response to my countenance.

May this serve as a mental balm to the sporadic outbreaks of visceral ailments.
