angry reader of the week: mina t. son

You know what time it is. Time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is filmmaker Mina T. Son.

Who are you?
My name is Mina T. Son.

What are you?
I am a Korean American, woman, filmmaker, wife, friend, only child, indecisive (only when ordering food), enthusiastic, and chatty. Not in that order, and I'm sure I'm other things, too.

Where are you?
Inside my home office in LA, which is really our living room. You'll usually find me in a vicious technology loop - laptop, phone, laptop, repeat!

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Orange County. Garden Grove to be exact!

What do you do?
I am an independent filmmaker currently working on a feature-length documentary called TOP SPIN, with my filmmaking partner Sara Newens (also known as my work wife). For the past year, Sara and I have been following a group of talented teens fighting for a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Table Tennis team. It's been incredible following these intensely devoted young stars, and they've totally inspired us to follow our dream, too!

Right now we need a lot of help to finish our film. We launched a Kickstarter campaign last week to raise post-production funds and are in danger of not reaching our goal, which means not being able to finish the film!

Don't let this happen... whatever you are doing right now, STOP. Take a 3-minute break to watch our trailer and donate, if you can. Every bit helps and more than anything we need to build momentum! Help us reach $10,000 by the end of this weekend to get folks excited! Come on, this is THE ultimate underdog story.

Please share our link with as many people as possible, through Facebook, Twitter, blogs, emails, phone calls, grab the person next to you if you have to. If we've learned anything while making this film, it's that EVERYBODY loves ping pong.

What are you all about?
My films have spanned an eclectic range of topics that share a common thread of offering glimpses into underrepresented and rarely seen subjects. I also tend to make films that offer a more positive tone and outlook. It wasn't until recently when this was brought to my attention by a friend, but I think it's true. It's part of my personality and the way I was raised. I'm super thankful to my parents for inheriting their endless supply of optimism. It's especially useful when doing crazy Kickstarter campaigns!

What makes you angry?
Sunburns. I have a pretty hideous one right now on the back of my legs, which makes sitting problematic. People who are rude and downright mean piss me off, too. Oh, and best to avoid me when I'm hungry.
