As fans of Fresh Off The Boat are aware, much of the show's humor is derived from some good old-fashioned '90s nostalgia. But we sometimes forget that the show's young stars weren't even alive yet during the nineties.

On Tuesday at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, comedian Jenny Yang and I hosted a live screening of Fresh Off the Boat, featuring members of the show's cast and crew, including stars Forrest Wheeler, Ian Chen and Lucille Soong, writers Ali Wong and Sanjay Shah, and executive producer Melvin Mar.

During the Q&A, an audience member asked Forrest and Ian, who play brothers Emery and Evan Huang, what Fresh Off The Boat had taught them about 1990s pop culture. Forrest proceeded to describe what he had learned about pagers... and made us all feel some kind of way.

This is the classiest cover of "Thong Song" you've ever heard.

Jen Kwok's '69*' combines 90s R&B and classical piano.

Ohhhh yes. This is pretty damn marvelous. Comedian/actress/musician Jen Kwok's latest project *69 combines two of her greatest passions: 90s R&B and classical piano. Girl, you're speaking to my heart.

The six-song EP and video series features Jen's smoothed-out vocals and a Rachmaninoff-esque spin on some popular hits of yesteryear, including classics like "Thong Song" by Sisqo, "My Lovin'" by En Vogue, "My Boo" by Ghost Town DJs, and "Are You That Somebody" by Aaliyah. This is so good.

Check out these videos of Jen doing her thing:

Jon M. Chu making 1990s dance comedy 'Can't Touch This'

No, it's not a M.C. Hammer biopic.

Director Jon M. Chu is reportedly going old school with a new feature film project called Can't Touch This. No, it's not a M.C. Hammer biopic. It's a high school dance comedy movie set in the 1990s. Well, that's my jam.

Jon M. Chu, Focus Features Step Up To '90s-Set 'Can't Touch This'

According to Deadline, Chu and his producing partner Hieu Ho have sold the retro dance-comedy, with a script by The Goldbergs producers Annie Mebane and Steve Basilone, to Focus Features.
