News of racist violence out of Australia.... Last month in Terrigal, three days before Australia Day, a Korean shop owner and and his wife were assaulted by a teenager who repeatedly yelled "fuck off home you Asians!"

Paul and Isabella Shin were viciously attacked outside their convenience store, The Little Shop, on January 23 by a 17-year-old boy who, with three friends, reportedly yelled "Fucking Asians, fucking go home!"

The attack, which sent Mr. Shin to the hospital with a black eye and extensive bruises on his arm and upper chest, came after moAnths of persistent vandalism at the store. In the wake of the attack, the Shins have decided to sell their shop and leave the area.

"My wife is shocked. I want to forget a bad memory," Mr. Shin told The Sydney Morning Herald.

'The Family Law' is Australia's answer to 'Fresh Off The Boat'

New comedy series based on Benjamin Law's memoir premieres January 14 on SBS.



Australia is getting its own TV version of Fresh Off The Boat. Based on the bestselling memoir by Benjamin Law, The Family Law is a drama-comedy series set on Queensland's Sunshine Coast over one hot summer, following "a sprawling Chinese-Australian family of seven who are unlike any you've ever met."

The Family Law unfolds in the dysfunctional and hilarious world of the Law family -- as seen through the eyes of 14-year-old Benjamin Law. As Benjamin dreams of soap opera stardom, his parents contemplate separation. Over the course of one unforgettable summer, the self-absorbed clarinet-playing teenager increasingly finds himself embroiled in other people's dramas, usually with disastrous results.

The six-episode series premieres on January 14 on SBS. [UPDATE: Episode 1 will premiere on the SBS Australia Facebook page for one weekend only starting 5:00pm (Australian time, presumably) on Friday, January 8.]

Here's another one out of Australia, where videos of people being super f*cking racist on public transportation seem to be a petty regular occurrence... This week on a Sydney bus, a woman was caught on camera screaming a tirade of racist abuse at an Asian woman. And surprise, surprise, nobody stepped in to help.

Lindsay Li was waiting for the bus on Wednesday when she says a woman came up to her, spat on her and struck her with her shopping cart, before pushing ahead of her to get on to the bus when it pulled up. Then, on the bus, the woman turned around in her seat and started talking racist shit.

That's when Ms. Li pulled out her camera phone:

Here's another one that comes to us from Australia. What is it with people getting their racist shit caught on camera in the land down under? It seems to happen a lot. This one happened at a fast food restaurant.

In Adelaide, a customer at Hungry Jacks (the Australian subsidiary of Burger King) was arrested for disorderly behavior after going off on an abusive, racist tirade directed at an Asian employee.

The incident was caught on video. After placing his order, the customer can be heard demanding, "I want it made by a white person," and then saying, "I refuse it." When staff asks him to leave the restaurant, he screams, "At least I'm born here c---. Where do you come from, f---ing Africa and Asia? Disgusting."

I don't know what it is about Australia and racist shit happening on public transportation, but here's another recent incident caught on video, in which an Asian woman is verbally abused with racist and sexual slurs.

The incident happened last week on a train in Perth, where an Asian woman was taunted by another woman who got in her face and verbally assaulted her with a tirade of slurs for apparently no reason at all.

55-year-old Sue Wilkins was caught on cell phone camera video calling an Asian woman a "gook," mocking her accent, pulling her eyes back -- the international symbol for "chink"! -- and questioning why the woman came to "our country." The incident was apparently set off when Wilkins couldn't find a seat on the train, and she insisted a group of children give up their seats for her.

Things got real racist, real fast when a man started filming Wilkins as she phoned police to complain about the children not offering her their seats. As you can see in the video, she goes off:

Australia's A Current Affair apologizes for racist "All Asian Mall" story

The segment claimed a Sydney shopping center was being overtaken by Asians.

News of racist television from down under... In Australia, Channel Nine's A Current Affair issued an on-air apology for a racist, incendiary segment that claimed a Sydney shopping center was overtaken by Asian retailers: A Current Affair breached code with 'All-Asian Mall' story.

The story, "All-Asian Mall," which aired last November, used inflammatory language and negative misinformation to drive home the impression that Asian shopkeepers were "taking over" a shopping center in Castle Hill, Sydney. The segment also included commentary from controversial former politician Pauline Hanson, who once warned of Australia being "swamped by Asians."

The Australian Communications and Media Authority ruled that the story related inaccurate factual material, placed "gratuitous emphasis" on ethnic origin," and provoked "serious contempt" of someone's ethnic origin. In other words, it was racist bullshit.

In Sydney, this charming racist lady goes off on two Asian guys in front of her won't sit down. Whether or not they should take a seat, Ms. Manners uses the moment to go crazy racist on the guys. Some news of another racially motivated attack, this time in Ipswich, where a man faced trial as the ringleader of a racist attack: 'Mob mentality' fuels vicious racial attacks.

25-year-old Vernon Absolom Ross Saylor and two friends are accused of assaulting a Korean man as he was leaving a grocery store, repeatedly punching him in the head and making fun of his eyes. At some point, the thugs turned their attention to two Indian men leaving their car:

Daaamn. More hate crime news out of Australia... In Melbourne, a Korean student says he was the victim of a racist knife attack by a group of teenagers who cut off his finger: Korean Loses Finger in Racist Attack in Australia.

The student, identified only as "Jang," was walking through a park with a friend when a group of teenagers asked him for a cigarette. When he refused, the group assaulted him, calling him racial slurs and cutting him a knife. Jang ended up losing a finger:

Disturbing news out of Australia... Last week, two self-proclaimed skinheads pleaded guilty to a brutal racial assault on an Asian student in Melbourne earlier this year: 'We're skinheads and we don't like Asian people.'

21-year-old Shannon Hudson and 20-year-old Wayne O'Brien admitted to attacking the student, calling him a "yellow dog," pinning him against a fence, repeatedly kicking and punching him the face and stabbing him with an unknown sharp obejct before finally breaking a brick over his head.

The victim had just been walking down the street, minding his own business, listening to his iPod. Then, without provocation, he was getting the crap kicked out of him -- simply because he's Asian:
