Congresswoman refers to "yellow people" during opening remarks at conservative conference.
Okay, so this isn't anywhere near the top of the list of shitty things that Marjorie Taylor Greene has said during her inexplicable political career, but over the weekend the Georgia congresswoman referred to "yellow people" -- um, I think she meant us -- while pushing back against claims of the GOP being a "white supremacist party."
During her opening remarks Sunday at "AmericaFest," a conference organized by conservative group Turning Point USA, Greene attempted to make a case touting the Republican party's alleged diversity by enumerating alllll the different kinds of people who might attend a fine event like this.
"So I've never been to one of these events before," said Greene. "I've heard a little bit about them. I've seen a little bit of this event, this type of event before. And when I walked in yesterday, I was like, 'What kind of people come here?' So I'm walking around and seeing some good people and I see white people, Black people, brown people, yellow people..."
Over the weekend during a press conference, Green Bay Packers receiver Devin Funchess used the word "chinky" to describe the smiling eyes of reporters. He clearly wasn't directing the slur at anyone; he wasn't even referring to any actual Asian person. It was, on the surface, a word uttered out of ignorance.
But this incident, and the similarly casually racist Juventus slant-eye photo debacle, point to a bigger issue, as sports commentator Pablo Torre points out in this excerpt from the ESPN Daily podcast.
"I am appalled and embarrassed and want to barf that I ever mouthed along to that word."
Billie Eilish has apologized after a video surfaced of her apparently mouthing along to a song as an anti-Asian racial slur is used. The singer posted a statement on her Instagram account addressing the edited compilation of videos, which was widely circulated on TikTok earlier this month. Eilish says the videos in question were recorded when she was 13 or 14 years old. In one clip, Eilish mouthed the word "chink" -- which she claims she didn't know was a slur at the time -- and in another video she apparently imitated an accent.
Seems like sooner or later, somebody always digs up some racist bullshit you did in your young past -- whether you knew it was racist or not. It's like a twisted celebrity rite of passage.

Baseball Bat Attacker First Accused Asian Muni Driver of Being COVID-19 Positive
Last week in San Francisco, when a bus operator asked three passengers to wear masks aboard the bus, one of the men spat at the driver -- who is Asian -- called him racial slurs and accused him of having coronavirus, before attacking him with a baseball bat. When the driver managed to grab hold of the bat, the man then punched the driver twice in the face. The driver suffered a fractured finger, bruises and pain where he was struck. While bus union insists this was a hate crime, San Francisco police are saying the incident did not appear to be racially motivated. What?

Caught on Camera: Woman Calls Postal Worker a "Chink"
In Los Altos, California, a woman was caught on camera calling an Asian American postal employee a "chink." In the video, shot by another customer, the woman yells at the USPS worker, "Can you just do your job?! It's simple!" After some more shouting the woman can be heard saying "chink" under her breath. Bystanders in line quickly jump in to denounce the slur. A few seconds later, the woman looks directly into the phone camera and says "chink" again, much louder, and storms out. And now that it's blown up, be on the lookout for the inevitable tearful apology, in which the woman claims she was "having a bad day," and that's "not who she is."

‘Daredevil’ Actor Peter Shinkoda Claims Jeph Loeb Made Anti-Asian Comments Daredevil actor Peter Shinkoda took a stand on Sunday during #SaveDaredevilCon as he claimed that former head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb said anti-Asian comments during the production of the series. Shinkoda, who played Nobu Yoshioka, talked about how a potential storyline delving into his character's relationship with Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho) got scrapped. "Jeph Loeb told the writers room not to write for Nobu and Gao," Shinkoda said. "He said, 'Nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people. There were three previous Marvel movies, a trilogy called Blade that was made where Wesley Snipes killed 200 Asians each movie. Nobody gives a shit so don't write about Nobu and Gao.'" As a result, the storyline was dropped. From what I remember about Daredevil... yeah, all this sounds about right.

Caviar driver Nathan Cole was caught on camera yelling profanities and racial slurs at an Asian woman.
In San Francisco, a man delivering online food orders was caught on camera going off on a racist rant, targeting an Asian woman, during one of his deliveries. Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
31-year-old Nathan Cole, a delivery driver for the online service Caviar, is accused of yelling profanities and racial slurs at Sophia Shih in front of her home in San Francisco's Sunset neighborhood.
The incident was apparently sparked by Cole's car, which was parked illegally in Shih's driveway. When Shih asked Cole not to park there, he reportedly started screaming at her. A security camera recorded Cole calling Shih "foreign-ass," "dog-eating," "cat-eating..." (KTVU's broadcast bleeped out parts of his rant.)
State Rep. Bettie Cook Scott referred to state Rep. Stephanie Chang as "ching-chong."
In Michigan, amid mounting backlash, a state legislator has apologized for "disparaging remarks" -- for the record, she means racial slurs -- that she made against an Asian American opponent for state Senate.
During a recent Democratic primary, Michigan state Rep. Bettie Cook Scott reportedly referred to her opponent, state Rep. Stephanie Chang, as "ching chong," and called members of Chang's staff "ching chongs."
"Vote for me. Don't vote for the ching-chang!" witnesses overheard Scott telling voters during the August 7 primary election for District 1. She also reportedly called Chang's campaign volunteers "ching-chongs," saying "I called them ching-chongs. That's what they are!"
Well, that's just some good, old-fashioned racist schoolyard name-calling. But wait, there's more.
At an earlier campaign stop, Scott called one of Chang's campaign volunteers an "immigrant," saying "you don't belong here" and "I want you out of my country." Later, she was overheard telling a voter "these immigrants from China are coming over and taking our community from us." Further, she said it "disgusts" her "seeing Black people holding signs for these Asians and not supporting their own people."
When all else fails, racism and xenophobia are a tried and true political strategy.
On this edition of White People Feel Entitled To Tell You Shit... In North Carolina, a man felt to compelled to get out of his pickup truck, walk on to the property of an Asian American household and express his negative feelings towards the anti-Trump sign on their lawn... before calling them the N-word, among other things.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, seems to have been sparked by the lawn sign that reads "Fuck Donald Trump." (The other signs include "Refugees Welcome Here" and "Black Lives Matter.") Truck Guy claims to take issue with the vulgar language, not the political sentiment -- "I voted for Bernie Sanders," he declares -- but then proceeds direct several varations of "fuck" at the house's residents.
Then, abandoning the flimsy pretense that this was actually about civility or decency, the guy runs off towards his truck, turning around to call them the N-word while making a vulgar gesture towards his own crotch. The guy eventually drives off, but not before declaring, among other things, that he "built this country" and warning that refugees will "steal everything you own" (according to Google, he cites).

Video shows protestor calling the San Francisco supervisor a "skinny-ass rice-eating motherfucker."
In San Francisco, a mayoral candidate meet-and-greet ended abruptly when protestors interrupted the event and shouted racial slurs at Supervisor Jane Kim, calling her a "skinny-ass rice-eating motherfucker."
The incident, caught on Facebook Live video, occurred during a joint campaign event hosted by Kim and Mark Leno in the Fillmore district on Saturday. Kim had just finished speaking about affordable housing in the city when protestors -- apparently supporters of candidate London Breed -- crashed the proceedings.
The video shows an audience member interrupting the Q&A, demanding why Supervisor Breed wasn't invited to the event. Things quickly go off the rails as others join in the shouting, until that first gentleman (who appears to be chomping on some grapes?!) yells "You got this skinny-ass rice-eating motherfucker coming in here" -- referring, of course, to the Asian American candidate -- "what's she going to do in Fillmore?"

It's 2018. Can we all agree that some phrases are racist and just need to be retired? In West Virginia, both the governor and a state school board official have recently been on record using the term "chinaman."
Back in February, at a live streamed town hall meeting, Governor Jim Justice was discussing issues that later led into a statewide public school workers strike. He was trying to dissuade teachers from backing a proposed tax increase to fund more substantial pay raises, saying the bill had no chance of passage in the legislature.
"There's not a Chinaman's chance in the whole wide world that will happen," Justice said. "It's not getting out of committee."
May this be your semi-regular reminder that "chinaman" is a racial slur.
Aside from the fact that Justice clearly doesn't know -- or doesn't care -- that he's using a slur, this was just plain unnecessary. How was the governor's point enhanced by slapping the phrase "Chinaman's chance" on top of this statement? Like, "in the whole wide world" wasn't enough hyperbole? Had to throw in that racial slur for good measure, because hey, it sounds funny. Or "silly," as the governor would later claim, two days later.
"I use a lot of silly phrases and stuff like that," Justice said. "If that offended somebody, then I'm sorry."
Man calls Asian passenger racial slurs before repeatedly hitting him on a BART train.
Can't a guy just ride the train in peace without being accosted, called racial slurs and getting punched?
In the Bay Area, a man was caught on camera attacking an Asian passenger on a BART train, calling him racial slurs before punching him multiple times. The video, recorded Monday night, has since gone viral.
The assault happened on the Richmond line going south to Fremont around 10:00 PM. A man in a blue shirt boarded the train at the Coliseum station and got into a verbal altercation with another passenger, San Francisco Chronicle as Charles Wu, who was sitting down. According to a witness, the man was saying the n-word repeatedly on the train, and Wu stepped in and told him to stop. Blue shirt apparently didn't like that.
Video of the incident, recorded and posted to social media by fellow passenger Wiseley Wu (no relation), shows the man calling Charles Wu a "Chinese n**ger," among other profanities, and threatening to punch him. Things escalate when he reaches over and hits Wu in the shoulder and head.
San Francisco home targeted with racist, threatening hate letters.
An Asian American family in San Francisco has been the target of racist, threatening hate mail since putting up a sign in support of "Black Lives Matter" in their window. But they're not backing down.
Debbie Lee says she has had the sign up in the front window of her Forest Knolls/Twin Peaks home since 2015. But over the summer, she started receiving threatening letters about the sign.
The first letter showed up in her mailbox in July. Postmarked with no return address, it declared "BLUE LIVES MATTER! Get rid of your sign or WE will!" By the way, that's a threat.
The second letter said, "It's time to replace your BLM sign. How about CHINK LIVES MATTER."
Things got real racist real fast on the streets of Sunnyvale.
Protip: If you get the feeling something racist is about to happen, it doesn't hurt to pull out your camera and start recording. This one comes to us from Sunnyvale, California, where a woman recorded a racist encounter with an asshole motorist who called her a "bitch" and a "fucking Cambodian n**ger."
Paula Nuguid says she riding her bike with her 9-year-old daughter, attempting to make a legal left turn, when a man in a Nissan Altima started honking at her and calling her a "bitch." She confronted the man, rolling up to his window and demanding, "How fucking dare you, you entitled white prick?"
"Oh, shut the fuck up," he cleverly retorted.
When Nuguid told him, "I can tell you're not from California," the man responded, "You fucking Cambodian n**ger, get out of here." Aaaaaaand there it is. Smile, asshole. You're about to become internet famous.
Nuguid posted video of the encounter on Facebook, saying "I hope his friends, family, and employer see this."
Vandals spray-painted "CHINKS" on the garage door.
There's nothing quite like someone asshole spray-painting "CHINKS" in giant letters across the front of your house to make you feel welcome in the neighborhood. Over the weekend in Minnesota, a Hmong family's home was targeted by vandals who defaced their garage door and car with hate graffiti.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning at a home in Oakdale, a Twin Cities suburb. The vandals spray-painted the racial slur on the garage door, and "Lick my bulls" [sic] across the side of a car. Really?
TL Xiong, who lives at the home with this parents, posted photos of the vandalism on Facebook. He noted that his family moved in to the house only two months ago and warned the vandals that "karma will get you."
What is it with racist vandals who can't leave a clean surface alone? Congratulations, asshole. It's like you took a public shit with a Sharpie pen. This particular idiotic little act of handwritten hate was spotted over the weekend at Chinese Garden Park in Oakland's Chinatown. As you can see, someone scrawled the words "CHINAMAN" "CANTON" "INDIANS" "BITCH" and "CHINK" on the park sign. I guess the author is suggesting "Chinaman" as a replacement for "Chinese." And the rest are... alternatives? In order of preference?
Sidney Chan is accused of kicking Stephen Kent in the face after Kent called him a racial slur.
All right. As a matter of principle, I'm going to emphasize that I can't condone violence. But I'm also not going to be terribly disappointed by the news that a guy got kicked in the face after calling someone a "chink."
In London, 20-year-old Sidney Chan is accused of kicking Stephen Kent in the face -- twice -- during a fight that broke out after Kent called him a "chink" while they were leaving a student bar at Imperial College.
Prosecutors say the altercation was set off when Chan "provoked" Kent by making a comment about his "1980s-style mullet haircut." (I am absolutely dead serious.) But Chan denies making fun of the mullet. He says Kent was the real aggressor, calling him a "chink" before charging at him and throwing punches.
"I never said anything about his hair," Chan said at trial. "He started throwing punches at me after he fell to the ground after I had pushed him. He quickly got back up and he charged at my group and started throwing punches at me."
Dispatches from Trump America... This week in Pittsburgh, a man was arrested for assaulting an Indian man at a restaurant after calling him racial slurs and apparently mistaking him for what he called a "f*cking Muslim."
54-year-old Jeffrey Burgess allegedly told Ankur Mehta, who was sitting next to him at the bar at a Red Robin Restaurant, that "things are different now" and "I don't want you sitting next to me -- you people."
He then reportedly called Mehta a "sand n**ger" and a "f*cking Muslim" before launching an unprovoked attack, hitting him four or five more times in the face with his elbows and fists. Mehta, by the way, is not Muslim -- not that it matters, because this guy was clearly out to start some racist shit with "you people."
Three drunken racists walk into a bar... Last week in Boston, two men and a woman were arrested on assault charges after beating up the Asian owners of a sushi restaurant while shouting racial slurs at them.
40-year-old James Mulhern, 54-year-old Colleen McDonough and 50--year-old Timothy O'Sullivan were arrested after police responded to calls about a large fight outside Royal Hotspot Sushi & Bar in Quincy.
According to police, the three walked into the restaurant drunk and repeatedly asked what the special was. When they were told there was no special, they became irate, yelled racial slurs -- because they apparently needed an excuse to yell racial slurs -- and stormed out, slamming the door and damaging the restaurant wall.
One of the owners followed them out and told them she was calling the police, when McDonough punched her and swung a pocketbook, striking the owner in the face and yelling, "Go back to your own country!"
Rep. Peter King used the term "Jap" on MSNBC, claiming it was "satire."
Former House Homeland Security Chairman Peter King (R-N.Y.) is refusing to apologize for using an anti-Asian racial slur during a recent cable news appearance, defending his remarks as "satire."
In an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe on Friday, King used the term "Japs" while criticizing presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's "uninformed" views on foreign policy, likening the candidate to a hypothetical "guy at the end of the bar."
King highlighted his opposition to Trump's proposal to pull U.S. troops out of Japan and South Korea and instead equip them with nuclear weapons as a deterrent against China and North Korea.
"There's real issues with him, real problems with his views," King said of Trump. "I don't know if he's thought them through, or if it's like the guy at the end of the bar that says, 'Oh screw them, bomb them, kill them, pull out, bring them home. You know, why pay for the Japs, why pay for the Koreans."

Christopher Qu arrested for attacking an African American man and his teenage brother.
What the hell. In Irvine, California, a 24-year-old man was arrested last week for committing a hate crime after assaulting an African American man and using racial slurs against his teenage brother.
On Wednesday, the 16-year-old Irvine High School student was waiting for his brother to pick him up after sports practice. As the teen's 24-year-old brother drove up the school, the student was approached by Christopher Qu, who was carrying a metal pipe.
According to Irvine police, Qu -- who neither of the brothers knew -- began saying racial slurs and aggressively walking toward the teen. The student's brother got out of his car to intervene, but he was head-butted by Qu and struck several times with the pipe.
