Gillibrand shared the story in her new memoir Off the Sidelines, talking about how her male colleagues in the Senate felt free to comment on her weight -- most egregiously, the remark about "chubby" girls accompanied with a squeeze of her waist. Gillibrand declined to reveal the name of the colleague in question.

Daniel Inouye to be awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom

This week, President Obama named sixteen recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Among the sixteen individuals bestowed with the Presidential Medal this year, including Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Loretta Lynn, the late Senator Daniel Inouye will be presented with the honor posthumously.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who "have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Executive Order signed by President John F. Kennedy establishing the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The awards will be presented at the White House later this year. Here's the full list of this year's recipients:

Senator Daniel Inouye dies at 88

Sad news. Hawaii Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye, who had been hospitalized since early December due to respiratory problems, has died at age 88: Hawaii Sen. Daniel Inouye dies at age 88.

Inouye served in the Senate since 1962 and represented Hawaii since 1954. He was a pioneer, and as the Senate pro tempore and chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, one of the most influential and powerful Asian Americans ever to serve in U.S. politics.
