Tilting the Streets of San Francisco

Fun video bends gravity by flattening San Francisco's hilly streets.



The city of San Francisco is known for, among other things, its outrageously steep streets. It's always a little crazy to see entire blocks of houses built on a 30% grade. This fun video, created by Karen X. Cheng and Ross Ching, uses a simple camera trick to create a cool gravity illusion on the hilly streets of San Francisco.

Music Video: "Gone" by Kina Grannis



Oh, you know I love that Kina Grannis. One of my favorite singer/songwriters recently released the official music video for "Gone," from her album Stairwells. Filmed around Los Angeles and directed by Ross Ching, the video stars Kina and two glowing stick figure things. Yep. Take a look:

the empty america series by ross ching



A couple of years ago, I posted something about filmmaker Ross Ching's super-cool time-lapse video project Running on Empty, in which he used digital trickery to depict various parts of Los Angeles as completely carless and eerily empty. If you've lived and driven in LA, you know how crazy this looks.

I was really impressed with that video, and recently learned that Ross followed it up with The Empty America Series, created through the premium YouTube channel Thrash Lab. It basically takes the same concept and applies to other great American cities. Empty. Take a look:
