Before he became an action movie superstar, an international icon and arguably the most influential martial artist of all time, he was a hungry artist with some wild ideas and big dreams. Ever wonder what it would be like to hang out with the young Bruce Lee?

Bruce Lee Is Your Roommate, written by Patrick Miller and illustrated by Irene Koh, is a short story that explores Bruce Lee's off-screen life through his own words. Told in the second person, the tale imagines what it would be like if the young Bruce Lee -- not quite yet a superstar -- crashed at your place for a few months.

Let's face it: time travel is for white people.



I love time travel stories. Whether it's Back to the Future or The Terminator, The Time Traveler's Wife or friggin' Hot Tub Time Machine, I'm a sucker for narratives about what happens when you travel through time.

But let's face it: time travel is for white people.

For people from underrepresented and minority communities, time travel could be more of a disaster than an adventure. Imagine, as an Asian American person in 2015, going back in time and landing in pretty much any era of our nation's brief history. I have to imagine it would be less than awesome. Just imagine it.

This is the founding idea behind Time Traveling is Not for Everyone, an anthology conceived by writers Heidi Durrow and Koji Steven Sakai who are accepting proposals for short stories featuring a character from an underrepresented community traveling to some time period before this one.

ted chiang's "story of your life" to be adapted into movie

Some movie news... Just read about an upcoming feature film in the works, Story of Your Life, based on the award-winning science fiction short story by noted author Ted Chiang: Shawn Levy-Produced 'Story of My Life' Finds Financing, Nic Mathieu Directing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nic Mathieu will direct the big screen science fiction flick, financed and produced by FilmNation and Lava Bear Films.

The script, adapted by Eric Heisserer, is described as a "mind-bending sci-fi thriller with a powerful emotional twist," and involves alien visitors and language translators and stuff:

Writer Ken Liu became the first author to win the Hugo, the Nebula and the World Fantasy Award -- science fiction's three major honors -- for his 2011 fantasy short story "The Paper Menagerie." I just read it. Consider me a new fan.

Originally published last year in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, the heartbreaking story is about a boy, the son of an American man and his Chinese mail-order bride, who grows up feeling alienated because he's different. The mother speaks little English, but she has the gift to blow life into her origami animals. The tale is magical... and very sad.
