It's an awkward moment, my sisters. When you're with a white guy, and that unfortunate epiphany strikes like lightning, When You Realize He Has Yellow Fever. My friend Jenny Yang has been there. In this BuzzFeed video, she explains why she doesn't date white guys, sharing a story and re-enacting a real-life encounter with one particularly acute case of yellow fever. It's pretty damn hilarious.

Based on a true story...

Man wanted in attacks on Asian women in NYC found dead

25-year-old Tyrelle Shaw, suspected in at least four assaults, apparently took his own life.

The suspect wanted in a string of recent attacks on Asian women in Manhattan has been found dead of an apparent suicide. 25-year-old Tyrelle Shaw was found dead inside a basement on the Upper East Side.

In several blog posts, Shaw had expressed an obsessive "infatuation" with Asian women, described a plan to "hit over a million Asian women in the face," and announced his intention to take his own life.

Suspect in Attacks on Asian Women in Manhattan Found Dead of Apparent Suicide: Sources

Shaw was wanted in connection with at least four separate assaults that began on June 10. In each of the attacks, he approached his victims, then hit them in the face with a plastic bag containing a hard object, and ran off. In some of the attacks, he tried speaking to the victims. All of the victims were Asian women.

According to authorities, Shaw's body was found in an elevator shaft. He apparently hanged himself.

Suspect identified in attacks on Asian women

In a possible suicide note, Tyrelle Shaw describes the assaults as "The Nose Game."

The man wanted in connection with a series of attacks on Asian women in Manhattan over the last week has been identified by the NYPD as 25-year-old Tyrelle Shaw. According to relatives, he recently published a blog post describing his infatuation with Asian women, and may have expressed an intention to end his life.

Man Sought in 4 Attacks Is Said to Post Suicide Note

Shaw is suspected in a string of four separate assaults that began last Wednesday, June 10. In each of the attacks, Shaw approached his victims, then hit them in the face with a plastic bag containing a hard object, and ran off. In some of the attacks, he tried speaking to the victims. All of the victims have been Asian women.

Shaw's relatives reportedly stepped forward and contacted police after seeing surveillance video released after the most recent attack on Monday, in which he attacked a woman working at a dry cleaning shop.

With four Asian women assaulted in six days, it was already pretty clear that there was a bias pattern in the suspect's attacks. But Shaw's own writing has revealed the disturbing extent of his sexist, racist hate.

Fund This: "Carnal Orient"

A short "music video" exploring the nightmarish undertones of Asian fetish

Photo: Erica Hsu

Check this. Were you pissed off by that godawful "Asian Girlz" video that circulated last year? These ladies were, and they decided to do something about it. "Carnal Orient" is a short music video project that seeks to explore and protest the objectification of Asian women as sexual objects for the male gaze. Basically, it's a big middle finger to bullshit like "Asian Girlz" and the longstanding history of sexist, racist media just like it.

Directed by Mila Zuo and Mira Lew, and produced by Camille Mana, with an original score by Angela Seo the band Xiu Xiu, the project is described "a David Lynch/Twin Peaks-inspired psychological inquiry into the nightmarish undertones of Asian fetish." Whoa. They're raising funds for the project through Kickstarter.

Kristina Wong wants reparations for Yellow Fever

Watch her tear shit up on Myx TV's reality series 'I'm Asian American and...'

I adore Kristina Wong. From the moment I met her, I've admired Kristina for being fierce, funny and utterly fearless as a performance artist, provocateur, and friend. So I was quite pleased to hear that she's being featured on Myx TV's new reality TV show, I'm Asian American and..., a documentary series focused on the diverse Asian American diaspora. Yes, Kristina Wong... reality television star. And she destroys it.

The episode title alone should get you watching. In "I'm Asian American and... I Want Reparations For Yellow Fever," Kristina sets her target on guys with an Asian fetish. It's pretty darn marvelous. Take a look:

They're All So Beautiful: webseries explores "Yellow Fever"

They're All So Beautiful is the five-part companion web series to Debbie Lum's feature documentary Single Asian Female, exploring the phenomenon of "yellow fever." Yes, you know it. To put it gently, the "ubiquitous predilection Western men have for women of Asian descent." To put it bluntly, that gross-out fetish when dudes have an unhealthy obsession with Asian women. Chances are, you've met or know someone like this.

For some, this will be a tiresome conversation.

The series features talking head commentary from experts and everyday Asians/Asian Americans, as well as interviews with patrons of Asian fetish forums, who spell out the implications of race-based romantic preferences with honesty and humor. It will provoke, frustrate, intrigue and challenge you. Here's episode one, which poses the inital question, What is "Yellow Fever"?
