What If Catcalls Were Cheeseburgers?

"Would you throw a cheeseburger at your mother?"

BOOM. That is sound of knowledge dropping. Cheeseburger-shaped comedy knowledge. This hilarious comedy short, written by Tess Paras and directed by Rebekka Johnson, explores how women experience catcalls... except instead of catcalls, they get cheeseburgers. Wait, what?

According to Tess, the sketch "challenges the notion that catcalls are compliments that all women should enjoy, and explores how they can be disruptions that diminish the value of a woman's place in the world."

It's a pretty darn incredible story, and it's all true.

In February 2013, Anaïs, a French fashion student living in London, discovered a YouTube video featuring Samantha, an actress in Los Angeles, and was struck by their uncanny resemblance. After discovering they were born on the same day in Korea and both put up for adoption, Anaïs reached out to Samantha via Facebook. Then... reunion! Joy! Tears! All caught on camera.

Christian Pham accidentally entered the wrong event at the World Series of Poker.

It's no secret that Asians kick all kinds of ass in the world of professional poker. But are we so damn good that we can even win in games that we've never played before? That's what happened to one guy who showed up at the World Series of Poker, accidentally signed up for a game he had never played before, but somehow walked away with the tournament's coveted gold bracelet.

Minnesota man's mistake leads to winning poker's top prize

Dude apparently had no idea until he was dealt five cards instead of the usual two.

Dammit. Why won't this 'Akira' remake die?

'Daredevil' showrunner Marco J. Ramirez is the latest to take a crack at the live-action 'Akira' adaptation.

Noooooooo! Warner Brothers' live-action Akira remake appears to be back like a bad rash. The movie project absolutely nobody is asking for seems to be showing signs of life yet again. Marco J. Ramirez, who will be co-showrunning the second season of Netflix's Daredevil, will write the adaptation of the manga classic.

'Daredevil' Showrunner to Write 'Akira' Adaptation for Warner Bros. (Exclusive)

Based on the legendary manga by Katsuhiro Otomo, Akira is an epic sci-fi thriller set in the post-nuclear future of Neo-Tokyo. The dystopian, post-apocalyptic plot revolves around a teenage biker gang, a kid who acquires telekinetic powers, and the shady government agency trying to stop them. The 1988 animated feature version of Akira became a cult classic, and is considered a landmark in Japanese animation.

We've been talking about this damn thing for years. Why won't it just die?

Tilting the Streets of San Francisco

Fun video bends gravity by flattening San Francisco's hilly streets.

The city of San Francisco is known for, among other things, its outrageously steep streets. It's always a little crazy to see entire blocks of houses built on a 30% grade. This fun video, created by Karen X. Cheng and Ross Ching, uses a simple camera trick to create a cool gravity illusion on the hilly streets of San Francisco.

Goodbye and good riddance, Chop Chop Chinaman

Chicago restaurant's racist name sparked a vandalism arrest. Now it is closed.

The Chicago restaurant that made headlines and sparked outrage with its controversial name -- getting one woman arrested for defacing the restaurant's window in protest -- is apparently closed, at least for now.

Chop Chop Chinaman, The Controversial Local Restaurant, Closed For Now

Boystown eatery Chop Chop Chinaman has reportedly been closed for several days, just four months after opening. In addition to using an actual racial slur in its name, the restaurant's logo features an Asian caricature, complete with pointy hat, pulling a rickshaw. This is supposed to be on that ironic racism tip, right?

Owner Larry Lee says he hopes the restaurant's closure will be temporary. I, on the other hand, am I hoping Chop Chop Chinaman's closure will be permanent. Because this shit is racist.

89-year-old Sacramento man arrested for killing wife

Masaharu Ono is accused of murdering 83-year-old Hiroko Ono.

Damn. This is one of those stories I wish I hadn't heard about, because it just bums me the hell out. Last week in Sacramento, an 89-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of his 83-year-old wife.

89-year-old man arrested in wife's death

Masaharu Ono was jailed Friday in Sacramento County on a single count of murder after his wife Hiroko Ono was found dead in their home. While Ono claimed to authorities that he found her dead, coroner's officials determined that she had injuries that contributed to her death and were suspicious.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Ono used a "sharp instrument" to kill his wife.

Win tickets to see 'Seoul Searching' at LA Film Fest

Benson Lee's coming-of-age teen dramedy premieres June 17 in Los Angeles.

Hey, film fans! Seoul Searching, from writer/director Benson Lee, is a coming-of-age teen tale set during one crazy summer at a Korean culture camp. The film premiered earlier this year at Sundance, and will celebrate its Los Angeles premiere next week, June 17, as part of the Los Angeles Film Festival. Want to go to the red carpet gala at L.A. LIVE? I'm giving away free tickets. Scroll down for details...

Based on Benson Lee's real-life experiences, with a cast that includes Justin Chon, Jessika Van and In-Pyo Cha, Seoul Searching is an homage to John Hughes' teen dramedies of the 80s. Set in the summer of 1986, the story centers on a group of Korean high school misfits from around the world who are shipped off to attend a government-sponsored culture camp in Seoul to learn what it means to be Korean. Between the booze, fist fights, raging hormones and identity crises, it turns out to be the most memorable summer of their lives.

Planning a jailbreak? Don't forget to leave a racist note.

Two convicted murderers used power tools to bust out of a maximum security prison.

It's like a scene out of The Shawshank Redemption, except it's real life, with some totally random racism thrown in. In New York, two convicted murderers managed to escape from maximum security prison by using power tools to cut through the wall of their cell. The jailbreak has authorities scratching their heads over how they got away with it. I'm just wondering why they had to draw a racist Asian caricature on their farewell note.

With Power Tools and a Ruse, 2 Killers Flee New York Prison

48-year-old Richard Matt and 34-year-old David Sweat were discovered missing from the Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York early on Saturday morning. The pair apparently used power tools to cut through a steel wall in their neighboring cells, then traveled through a series of tunnels that led to a manhole outside prison walls. As I write this, they're still on the loose, with a massive manhunt underway.

The escape like it was a pretty sophisticated plan that took several days to execute. But yo, take a look at the parting message that Matt and Sweat left behind, presumably for authorities:

Teen goes missing after taking SAT

16-year-old Mira Hu may have run away after being "overwhelmed" by school and the exam.

In Southern California, authorities are searching for a high school student who was reported missing after taking the SAT. It appears that she may have run away after being "overhelmed" by school and the exam.

16-year-old Mira Hu was dropped off at Arcadia High School on Saturday morning to take the college entrance exam, but wasn't there when her parents came to pick her up. A short time later, she reportedly sent a message to her brother indicating that she was running away.

According to Mira's family:

Ernie Reyes Jr. is fighting for his life

Veteran actor/martial artist is suffering from kidney failure and needs your help.

Ernie Reyes Jr. needs your help. I recently learned that the 43-year-old actor and martial artist, who you may remember as a kid in movies like The Last Dragon or the television show Sidekicks, or in more recent fare like The Rundown and NCIS: Los Angeles, is suffering from kidney failure and fighting for his life.

Ernie is currently undergoing dialysis treatment three times a week for four hours a day while waiting for a kidney transplant. As you can imagine, this has been challenging for him and his family. His sister Destiny Reyes has started a GoFundMe campaign for his kidney transplant fund.
