Justice for Han! The new trailer has dropped for Fast & Furious 9, the latest installment in what is now officially being referred to as "The Fast Saga," and holy shit, it is on. Not only has Justin Lin returned to the director's chair, F9 gives us the shocking return of Sung Kang as fan-favorite character Han. To everyone's apparent surprise, Han did not die in a fiery wreck on the streets of Tokyo, but was apparently just chilling and sitting out the franchise for two movies. He is alive and in good health. And let's be honest: Han's resurrection is nowhere close to the craziest thing to happen in this franchise, or even in this trailer. Watch it here.

The hope is to help journalists, decision-makers, and community organizations better understand the diversity and geographic settlement patterns of AAPIs.

'Kung Fu' Reboot Gets Pilot Pickup from CW
The CW has ordered a pilot for Kung Fu, a reboot of the cult 1970s martial arts western. You may remember that show starred David Carradine, who is very much not Asian at all. This time around, the show is a contemporary take that centers on a Chinese American woman, with Christina M. Kim attached to write and executive produce. According to Variety, "a quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice, all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her." Let us hope for the best.

Whaaaaat. Justin Lin, the director responsible for turning the Fast & Furious movies into a legit international blockbuster mega-franchise, is reportedly ready to return to helm the ninth and tenth films in the series.

Justin Lin to Return for Next Two 'Fast & Furious' Films, Says Vin Diesel

This week during a Facebook Live broadcast from the set of Fast 9, franchise star Vin Diesel revealed that he was working with Lin. Describing him as the "architect" of the auto action series, Diesel announced that the director, along with star Jordana Brewster, will be returning for what will likely be the final two installments.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lin is in "advanced talks" to get back in the director's chair.

Cinemax orders Bruce Lee-inspired drama 'Warrior'

I am so here for this. Cinemax has given a 10-episode straight to series order to the period action drama Warrior, written by Jonathan Tropper, executive produced by Justin Lin and Danielle Woodrow, and inspired by an original idea from late martial artist Bruce Lee.

Set against the backdrop of the Tong Wars of San Francisco's Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century, Warrior tells the story of Ah Sahm, a gifted martial artist who immigrates from China to San Francisco and becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown's most powerful organized crime families.

Warrior appears to be a version of the long-rumored martial arts western that Bruce Lee had tried to develop as a star vehicle for himself, but was never able to materialize -- the idea that many believe eventually became Kung Fu... starring David Carradine, who was totally not Asian. In a now-famous 1971 interview on The Pierre Berton Show, Lee mentions he was in discussions to pitch a western called "The Warrior."

First of all, there is going to be a sequel Space Jam, the hit 1996 animated/sports/sci-fi/comedy/adventure feature film starring NBA legend Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes gang. This is happening.

Lin, who is a huge basketball fan, will reportedly direct and produce Space Jam 2 for Warner Bros. via his Perfect Storm Entertainment. He's also writing the script with Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello.

YOMYOMF re-launches "Interpretations" short film initiative

Hey filmmakers! Justin Lin's YOMYOMF recently announced the relaunch of the "Interpretations" short film initiative -- a unique filmmaking competition to find the next generation of Asian American filmmakers, in partnership with Comcast and NBCUniversal.

The challenge: produce and shoot a three-minute short film using a prescribed four-line script. For this edition of the initiative, the four lines are supplied by one of our greatest American writers, none other than acclaimed Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang.

10th Anniversary Screening: Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Los Angeles movie fans, mark your calendars. Next month, the Big Trouble in Little Tokyo film series presents a special 10th anniversary screening of 2006's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, followed by a discussion with the cast and crew. Revisit the film expanded the Fast universe and brought Justin Lin to the blockbuster franchise. It's happening Thursday, February 4 at the Japanese American National Museum.

Some more interesting news on Star Trek 3... The next installment of the hit sci-fi movie series has a pair of screenwriters. Doug Jung is co-writing the script with Simon Pegg. (I know, most outlets have been reporting this co-write relationship the other way around, but you know how we do.)

Almost forgot to mention the new CBS drama Scorpion premieres tonight. Produced by Justin Lin (who also directed the pilot episode), and inspired by a true story, the show is about an eccentric genius and a team of brilliant misfits who comprise the last line of defense against complex, high-tech threats of the modern age.

Scorpion's series premiere is the first TV pilot episode directed by Justin Lin, who said he wanted to try something completely different after exiting his four-film tour of duty on the Fast & Furious franchise (though tonight's episode does indeed include a crazy action sequence involving cars).

Whaaaaaaat. This oughta be pretty cool. Rumor has it, Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is in talks to direct a couple of episodes of the highly anticipated second season of HBO's True Detective.

According to Deadline, Justin is talks to direct at least the first two episodes of the critically-acclaimed crime drama's second season. Cary Fukunaga, who directed all eight episodes of season one and won an Emmy for best director for a drama series, is moving on to other feature projects but will remain on as executive producer.

So what's Justin Lin working on now? Add yet another movie to his giant, growing pile of projects. The Fast & Furious director's production company Perfect Storm beat out several buyers at the Sundance Film Festival to acquire the narrative remake rights for the documentary The Battered Bastards of Baseball.

The sports documentary, which premiered last week at Sundance, tells the unheralded true story of the late Hollywood veteran actor Bing Russell -- father of Kurt -- who in 1973 created the only independent baseball team in America at the time, the Portland Mavericks, a ragtag underdog team that defied the odds.

It's just one of those feel-good sports stories. You can see why studios like Columbia Pictures, Fox Searchlight and DreamWorks were all clamoring for a shot at the remake rights. But Justin's got 'em.

Whoa. The busiest man in Hollywood just added another project to his to-do list. Justin Lin, who recently wrapped up duties on the wildly successful Fast & Furious franchise and got handed the next movie in the Bourne series, is set to direct a 3D remake of the 1982 kung fu classic The Shaolin Temple.

There's no start date yet, and it doesn't even look like they have a script. But the film will be produced as a collaboration between Lin's Perfect Storm Entertainment, Beijing Enlight Pictures and Bruno Wu's Seven Stars, and aims to be an ambitious Mandarin-language blockbuster for the Chinese market.

If you had told me in 2001, upon release of The Fast and the Furious, that they would eventually go on to make six of these freaking movies, I would have told you to get the eff out of my car. But indeed, they've not only made six, but they've turned Fast & Furious into an international blockbuster franchise -- and arguably getting better with each film -- helmed by one of Hollywood's most successful Asian American directors. Whaaat.

You've come a long way, Justin Lin. Fast & Furious 6 marks a closing chapter for his run with the series, after successfully weaving together the seemingly disparate character/story threads from the first three movies, spinning a movie mythology and managing a bulging ensemble while continually upping the action ante. Yes, this is a big, loud movie, but it delivers in all the ways that count.

The movie also closes the loop for fan favorite Sung Kang as Han, who [SPOILER, like seven years ago, bro] meets his fate in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift -- the third movie in the franchise, but chronologically, the bookend to the series so far. Hats off to one of the coolest Asian American movie characters ever.
