Henry Golding to star as Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe spinoff

'Snake Eyes' will focus on the origins on the fan-favorite character.

From The Hollywood Reporter: Paramount has found its ninja warrior. Crazy Rich Asians breakout Henry Golding is in negotiations to star in Snake Eyes, a G.I. Joe spinoff centered on the popular commando from Paramount in partnership with Skydance and AllSpark Pictures.

Robert Schwentke, who helmed two installments of the Divergent franchise, is directing the action project that has Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner among the producers.

Snake Eyes is the ninja commando that first appeared in the 1980s as part of Hasbro and Marvel Comics' relaunch of the toy line, dubbed G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.

Team, We Have To Give Up On "Ninja"

Guest Post by Andrew Ti

Remember this bullshit?

For anyone who didn't see it, or doesn't feel like clicking, this is an insane video of a lady who was on The Apprentice (great pedigree), singing a bizarre racist song called "I want to be NEENJA." I don't recommend listening to this shit for very long, but thanks to Phil for finding this.

The song kicked off a train of thought for me, that ended at this stop. Asian folks: I think we've lost the word "ninja."

Jennifer Murphy doubles down with a crappier, even more racist version of the "Neenja" song

Oh, it gets much worse.

At the risk of giving this person yet more attention... she's back. Jennifer Murphy doesn't appear to be interested in putting this whole "Neenja" fiasco to rest. Instead, she's doubled down and decided to dig herself a deeper hole with her latest video, an even shittier, even longer version of this racist tune.

It's the remix!

Spliced together with the live footage from the "Pink Carpet Launch Party" that set this whole thing off, the new video boasts "never before seen foootage," filling in some of the backstory of the "Neenja" song -- as if context could help this situation -- and unfurling the song's narrative around the now-infamous "Chow." It's basically an Asian guy doing a fairly awful impression of Ken Jeong's character from The Hangover movies.

That's barely even the worst of it.

No, Jennifer Murphy. You are not "neenja."

See the former Miss Oregon and ex-'Apprentice' contestant sing a racist song about ninjas. Or something.

First, a warning: do not watch this video unless you want a craptastically racist song stuck in your brain.

That said, this video, originally entitled "I want to be NEENJA!" has been making the rounds. It features television personality, former beauty queen and former Apprentice contestant Jennifer Murphy singing a bizarre and inexplicably racist song about a bed. Or ninjas? Or some other stupid Orientalist shit.

Hyped as a "sneak peek" of her new song, the video shows Ms. Murphy performing the song live at the "Pink Carpet Launch Party" for her company, Jennifer Murphy Beds. It is an epic narrative tune about martial arts, somebody referred to as "Chow," and Jennifer's own quest to become a so-called "neenja" -- largely performed in a shitty faux ching chong accent. What any of this has to do with selling beds... somebody tell me.

How a Ninja Sketch Gets Whitewashed

"The beloved, classic tale of a failing foreign culture saved by a white man."

How does a story about "The Last Ninja" turn into "the beloved, classic tale of a failing foreign culture saved by a white man"? Whitewashing, baby. This "behind the scenes" CollegeHumor sketch is silly as hell, but you have to imagine this is not too far off from how these whitewashing scenarios might actually go down.

Take a look:

Do you like ninjas? G.I. Joe: Retaliation has ninjas.

You had us at ninjas. Actions fans, if you're heading to movie theaters for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, you'll be treated to a four-minute 3D preview of G.I. Joe: Retaliation. And it's pretty damn ninjatastic.

The first-look footage features Joe specialist Snake Eyes facing off against Cobra nemesis Storm Shadow, played by Korean actor Lee Byung-hun, in an extended Himalayan action sequence involving throwing stars, machine gun fire, a mountain-top blade battle and a legion of scarlet-clad ninjas. It's a cliff-hanger. Literally.

Here's a shorter 90-second version of the preview:

angry gift guide: miami connection on blu-ray/dvd/vhs

For something different... From out of the vault, via the mean streets of Florida, comes the greatest so-bad-it's-good synth rock ninja action street justice saga you've never heard of: Miami Connection -- a new cult classic.

Written, produced by and starring 9th degree black belt philosopher/author/inspirational speaker Grandmaster Y.K. Kim, the film was only released theatrically in Orlando in 1987 before getting quickly boo'd off the screen and into obscurity before being unearthed decades later by Drafthouse Films.

Recently released on Blu-ray, DVD and limited edition VHS (yes, do you remember?), Miami Connection is, hands down, one of the worst, most awesome and most enjoyable movies I've ever seen. First, behold the trailer:
