The Sex Talk, Saying 'I Love You' and Other Awkward Asian Parent Conversations

Jubilee Project's latest video series attempts to "bridge the gap" within Asian American families.

Jubilee Project's latest video series for NBC Asian America, The Bridge, brings together Asian American parents and their children face to face to discuss some topics they may never have broached before -- everything from their family immigration history to love and, yes, sex. (You can actually see mom, dad and kid sweating when the sex talk comes up.) It's both squirmy awkward and tearfully moving.

Check out all the episodes of "The Bridge" below. My favorite installment is Episode 5, where parent and kid stand and wordlessly stare at each other, face to face. You are not ready.

The Weird History of Asian Sex Stereotypes

MTV's Decoded drops some six-minute truth about western perceptions of Asian sexuality.

Why are Asian women considered "sexy" and "desirable"? While are Asian men considered... well, not. It's a pervasive, seemingly age-old perception that has plagued Asian men and women in various ways, from media representation to shitty bar encounters to ridiculously unproductive internet commentary.

Seriously (not seriously), we've been discussing and debating this topic in internet forums since at least 1957.

In this video for MTV's Decoded, Franchesca Ramsey drops some six-minute truth about these destructive and persistent western perceptions of Asian sexuality. She attempts to get at the origins of these ideas, breaking down some historical and sociological background for folks getting to the conversation a little late.

Naturally, this explanation required the presence of a buff and gratuitously shirtless Asian dude.

Asian parents have the sex talk with their adult daughters

"The Encyclopedia Britannica has a really good section on sex."

My fellow Asian Americans, when you were growing up, did your parents give you the sex talk? For a lot of us, the subject was not discussed and pretty much avoided altogether. In this hilarious and heartfelt Buzzfeed video, Asian Parents Have The Sex Talk With Their Daughters As Adults. Our friend Jenny Yang and her mom get in on the awkwardness, and it's amazing and honest comedy gold.

Take a look:

Things got just a little too spicy for 38-year-old Michael Suh and 27-year-old Nicole Germack, who were spotted from street engaging in sexual intercourse on the front of the roof of the fast food chain location.

The Saddest Sex(?) Ad Ever

This pathetic excuse for a flyer was supposedly found on a sidewalk in Downtown Flushing.

I don't know who made this sign, or what kind of goods or services it purports to offer (I have an idea), or if it's even real (doubt it). But I laugh just imagining that some enterprising person couldn't or wouldn't bother with a computer -- this was going to be a decidedly hand-drawn effort. I don't even what to know what happens if you call this number.

UPDATE: As suspected, this is some kind of joke. A joke on somebody's momma.

You know what this Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition needs? Some exotic human props.

Each year, we turn to the annual arbiter of good taste and hot bodies, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, to tell us what's fashionable in swimwear. Yeah. This year, they've traveled to "exotic" locales around the world, inexplicably using human props for the issue's half-nekkid photo shoots: In the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Chinese people are exotic props.

Hey you, with the funny hat and the beard, let us put our blonde beauty on your raft. No, stay there. You'll help add that extra mysticism flava to the shot. Oh, and you girls with the beads and sparkly hats. Adorable. Stand right there and smile. Why didn't we think of this before? Humans as exotic props! Here are some more photos:
