In Southern California, a mother and son duo have been arrested in connection with a string of nearly thirty robberies and distraction thefts targeting elderly Asian people over the last six months.

47-year-old Floarea Ghiocel and her son, 32-year-old Marius Ghiocel, were arrested on suspicion of robbery related to approximately 28 incidents over the past six months. According to Garden Grove police, the two are allegedly part of a group of Romanian travelers responsible for the robberies, all following a similar pattern.

In each case, the burglars targeted elderly Asian people with expensive jewelry. The burglars would approach the victims, remove the jewelry and replace it with a similar fake piece.

Asian Homeowners Targeted by Burglars in Torrance

Burglars posing as landscapers or gardeners appear to be targeting Asian American homeowners.



A warning for folks in Torrance, California: Asian American homeowners are reportedly being targeted by burglars posing as gardeners or landscapers. Several burglaries have occurred in recent weeks in town homes in gated communities in the central and eastern areas of Torrance.

According to police, the victims are homeowners of Asian descent who own businesses outside the city. Those victims may have been followed home from work and kept large quantities of cash at home.

The suspects are described as three to four people posing as gardeners or landscape workers. They were believed to be driving late model American minivans and SUVs.

Si says others have thrown rocks at the home, hurled racial insults, and left pornography at her front door. Police have apparently been called to the home several times, but the attacks have persisted. The only thing that's helped has been neighbors, organized through social media, setting up camp outside the home to deter the harassment. Has is really come to this?

This decal, urging no one in particular to "STOP THE ASIAN INVASION!" was spotted on a truck last week on Valley Blvd. in Alhambra, California. That also appears to be a racist caricature of an "Asian" ace in a coolie hat.

A sharp-eyed driver named Steve Kuo spotted the decal and snapped a photo and posted it on the Monterey Park Life Facebook group, imploring the internet to "find this person and contact his boss."

He is described as Asian, 5'3", 125lbs., with a skinny build, mustache, beard and dark hair in a bun. He was wearing a white t-shirt, white pants, brown sandals, and a long dark grey zip hoodie. He is described as soft spoken, and likes meditation and walking.

Two dead, three injured in shooting at Southern California high school

The shooter was reportedly a classmate, described as an "Asian male wearing black clothing."



Two students are dead and at least three others were injured, two of them in critical condition, after a classmate reportedly opened fire on Thursday morning at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California.

Officials said they had located the suspected shooter and that the person is "no longer a threat." The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says the suspect is in custody and is reportedly in grave condition at a local hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The shooting occurred in the school's quad area. Officials say video from the scene shows the suspect pulling a semi-automatic pistol out of his backpack, shooting five students, and then shooting himself in the head.

The shooter has been identified as a 16-year-old male student at the school whose birthday is today. Earlier reports described the suspect as an "Asian male wearing black clothing."

Administrator stabbed to death at Cal State Fullerton

Suspect described as "an Asian man in his mid-twenties with black hair."



From The Orange Country Register: A retired administrator was stabbed to death Monday morning at Cal State Fullerton, with police deploying bloodhounds to try and track down the suspect.

The victim, a man of Asian ethnicity in his late 50s, was found with multiple stab wounds inside a gray car in Parking Lot S at College Place and Langsdorf Drive. He was working as a consultant at the university.

No motive for the killing was known.

Surveillance video released in convenience store shooting

In Southern California, homicide investigators have released surveillance video footage of the suspect sought in the fatal shooting of a clerk at a convenience store during a possible attempted robbery.

44-year-old Gurpreet Singh was working behind the counter at ASL Liquor and Market in Downey on Tuesday night when a man entered the store and shot him with a silver handgun. Singh died at the scene. It's unclear whether the shooter had gone to the store with the intention of robbing it.

Authorities released ten seconds of the store's surveillance footage. One shot shows the suspect entering the store wearing glasses, jeans, black gloves and a black jacket. Another shot shows the man with a gun raised at Singh. The next shot shows the gunman backing away and running from the shop with the gun still in hand.

Daniel Sohn was arrested early Friday morning in West Hollywood after sheriff's deputies found him sleeping in a car, which was illegally parked overnight on a commercial property. 58-year-old Tarin Olson, a teacher and counselor at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California, was filmed telling Tony Kao and his wife that they should "go back to your home country" while they were walking in Long Beach. They were apparently on a neighborhood stroll with their baby when Olson just "nonchalantly" offered them this unwelcome advice, without provocation, as she was passing them on the sidewalk.

Kao says this wasn't their first encounter with Olson, only this time they heard her clearly.

"A few weeks back we believed we walked past the same lady and also heard her mumble something to that effect but ignored it and thought we misheard," Kao shared in a March 1 Facebook post that has since gone viral. "But this time as she walked away, I yelled to her, 'WHAT YOU SAY?'

Kao's wife recorded part of their interaction. As you can see, once Olson realizes they've got a camera on her, she tries to get the fuck out of there. But not before telling them, again, where to go.

In Southern California, a man was caught on camera verbally assaulting an Asian American woman, insulting her appearance and saying, among other things, "we're going to nuke you guys" and to "go back to Asia."

Jeanne Heo says she was riding the Metro when this guy approached her, asking if she was American and if she spoke English, to which she replied "yes" and then proceeded to ignore him. Which is a perfectly appropriate response in a situation like this. But this fucking guy apparently wouldn't let it go.

While exiting the Metro at the North Hollywood station, he asked Heo, "Where are your genetics from? Do you happen to be from Korea?" When she asked back, "Why do you want to know?" the guy apparently went off.

Heo recorded their interaction and shared it on Twitter.

From the San Gabriel Valley Tribune: A group of current and former Asian American officers of the San Gabriel Police Department claim they were routinely harassed and discriminated against -- both by other officers using slurs and stereotypes and by the department’s leadership, who they say passed them up for promotion after complaining about the alleged abuses, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

The lawsuit claims San Gabriel police maintained a "racially hostile" work environment in which they were demeaned "on a nearly daily basis," including other officers using "mock Asian accents" when speaking to them, as well as comments on their physical appearance and stereotypes about Asian culture.

8-year-old boy killed in drive-by shooting

In Southern California, homicide detectives are asking for the public's help searching for the assailant who opened fire on a home in Pomona, shooting and killing an 8-year-old boy before driving away.
