Haven't had a chance to post something about this, but I am way weirded out by this movie news... Sony Pictures is making a horror film based on the mysterious death of Canadian tourist Elisa Lam, whose body was found inside a rooftop water tank in downtown Los Angeles.

Lam, 21, was missing for several weeks before her body was discovered on the roof of the Cecil Hotel. Her death was ruled an accidental drowning, but hotel elevator surveillance video that showed Lam acting oddly -- plus the hotel's infamous past -- fueled wild internet conspiracy theories about how she died.

The Bringing, a horror script written by Brandon and Philip Murphy, is inspired by the strange circumstances behind Lam's death, and the grisly, sordid history of the Cecil Hotel:

Elisa Lam's death ruled accidental

The death of a Canadian tourist Elisa Lam, whose body was found in a hotel water tank, has been officially ruled an accidental drowning: Elisa Lam Death Accidental: LA Coroner.

Lam, who was visiting Los Angeles from Vancouver, had been missing for three weeks before her body was found in a water tank on the roof of the Cecil Hotel. A surveillance video showed her acting strangely in the hotel elevator before she disappeared.

The police initially investigated Lam's disappearance as suspicious and possibly involving foul play, but the Los Angeles County Coroner has ruled that the cause of death was "accidental due to drowning, other significant conditions: bipolar disorder."

UPDATE: The body has been identified as 21-year-old Elisa Lam, the University of British Columbia student who was visiting Los Angeles from Vancouver, and was last seen by staff at the Cecil Hotel on January 31. A surveillance video showed her acting strangely in the hotel elevator before she disappeared.

A worker discovered her body in a water tank at the top of the hotel building while responding to a complaint about low water pressure. Police had been investigating her disappearance as suspicious and possibly involving foul play. The location is reportedly being treated as a crime scene.

Surveillance video shows missing woman acting strangely

In Los Angeles, police have released a video of the Vancouver tourist who has been missing since January 31, and something is definitely not right: Video shows B.C. woman missing in L.A. acting strangely.

The surveillance video shows 21-year-old Elisa Lam, who was last seen by staff at the Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, exhibiting strange behavior in the hotel elevator. Lam appears to press every elevator button, seems to be hiding from someone, and is later seen communicating with someone off-camera. Here's the footage:

In Los Angeles, police are asking for the public's help in locating a missing Vancouver tourist who disappeared nearly a week ago while traveling alone around Southern California: Missing Vancouver woman sought in Los Angeles.

21-year-old Elisa Lam, a student at the University of British Columbia, arrived in Los Angeles on January 26 and was last seen January 31 by staff at the downtown Cecil Hotel. Investigators believe her disappearance is suspicious and may involve foul play.

Lam is 5-feet-4, weighs about 115 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. She speaks both English and Cantonese and used public transportation like Amtrak and local buses.
