Hyphen & Asian Art Museum present Hella Asians on TV

Hey, Bay Area. Have you noticed that there are hella Asians on TV? No, really. This is an unprecedented time for Asian Americans on television. Hyphen and the Asian Art Museum invite you to join them for Hella Asians on TV, a screening of an advance episode of Fresh Off The Boat, followed by a conversation about APIA representation in mainstream media with panelists Jenny Yang, Kristina Wong and Jeff Chang. It's happening Thursday, October 8 at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.

Awwww yeah. Who will be the next Mr. Hyphen? Bay Area, join Hyphen next week to find out. Five transformative Asian American men representing six transformative community organizations will compete for the coveted crown at the 8th annual community fundraiser Mr. Hyphen 2014.

The festivities will be hosted by the one and only Kristina Wong, and will feature performances by Grammy Award winner Hollis and vocal group Anak. I have the honor of serving as a judge. Good times! It's all going down Saturday, April 19 at the historic Marines' Memorial Theatre in downtown San Francisco.

They are looking for a for a few good men to compete in the eight annual Mr. Hyphen pageant, a community fundraiser highlighting leaders and advocates within the Asian American community.

For the last ten years, Hyphen has been holding it down as Asian America's only national print and online magazine, bringing you fresh, unique and thoughtful content from all corners of our community.

It's a labor of love. Each issue is a marvelous work of art and storytelling, but they apparently scrape by to barely afford each print run. Hyphen Call for Submissions: Fiction and Poetry

Hey, writers. Hyphen wants you! For their next issue, the Asian American news culture magazine is putting the call out for fiction and poetry submissions from talented APIA writers. The submission deadline is June 15.

They're specifically looking stories and poems pertaining to Issue 28's theme: The Future. What the heck does that mean? Anything, really. Have fun and be creative -- the possibilities are endless.

Hyphen Hoedown: Issue 26 Release Party, March 2



Think fast, Bay Area. Hoedown with Hyphen in celebration of the release of its 26th issue this Saturday, March 2 at Gallery 4N5 in San Francisco. The party is themed after their latest issue, The South, and will feature eats from Brenda's French Soul Food, acoustin blues and country music from Wilson Wong and Toshio Hirano.
