KORE is back as a brand new print magazine

Former KoreAm Journal reboots as the only print publication covering Asian Americans in entertainment/culture.



KORE is back. The magazine formerly known as KoreAm Journal, recently rebranded as KORE Asian Media, has been rebooted as a full-fledged print magazine. They'll be publishing ten times a year as the only print publication covering Asian Americans in entertainment and culture.

Kicking off the reboot, the inaugural September 2018 issue features the likes of John Cho, Ronny Chieng, Nina Yang Bongiovi, Sujata Day and the artist Gajin Fujita. Contributing writers include Euny Hong, Oliver Wang and Susan Cheng. Contributing photographers were Joyce Kim and Melly Lee.

This year's special issue celebrates "The New Hollywood," focusing on APAs in entertainment who are out there making their mark, challenging the status quo and transforming Hollywood in their own ways.

The full-color, 142-page issue features a fold-out cover showcasing stars Ross Butler, Grace Park, Karrueche Tran, Chloe Bennet, Leonardo Nam, Ludi Lin, BD Wong, Awkwafina, Justin Chon, Wendy Nguyen, Lana Condor and Jo Koy. Inside, feature stories include profiles on the likes of Mitski, Ally Maki, Celina Jade, Danny Pudi, Amy Okuda, Min Liang Tan and more.

Vanity Fair celebrates the Star Wars saga's 40th anniversary with four 'Last Jedi' covers.



As the Star Wars franchise prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary this week, the latest issue of Vanity Fair features not one but four different covers from the set of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. One of the covers includes the saga's newest character, Rose, played by Kelly Marie Tran, alongside Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and John Boyega as Finn.

Vogue photo shoot features Karlie Kloss doing stereotypical geisha shit.



For real, Vogue? A photo shoot featuring a white model as a geisha? In the so-called "diversity" issue, no less.

The much-hyped March issue of Vogue features supermodel Karlie Kloss in a Japanese-themed spread, titled "Spirited Away." Okay, can we just stop right there? Red flags, so many red flags going up everywhere. Let's be real: there was no fucking way that Vogue was going to handle this right.

The spread, photographed in Japan by Mikael Jansson and styled by Phyllis Posnick, features Kloss in what is pretty much yellowface, going full geisha in various photos shot around Japan's Ise-Shima National Park. They've got Kloss in thick black hair, pale skin and kimono-like attire, posed in various Japanese-y backgrounds. There's even a friggin' sumo wrestler for bonus stereotypical Japanese-ness.

'The Walking Dead' star is one of the few Asian Americans ever to be featured on the magazine's cover.



This week, in light of the brutal torture porn that was the Walking Dead season premiere, Entertainment Weekly is featuring Steven Yeun as its cover star. Makes sense -- he has portrayed one of the show's most beloved characters, and (SPOILER ALERT) it's a pretty big deal that after six season’s he's finally leaving the show. But his cover is a little groundbreaking in itself.

Will Glenn survive season six of 'The Walking Dead'?

Entertainment Weekly is clearly excited about the return of The Walking Dead. The hit AMC undead drama returns for the second half of season six this Sunday. To celebrate, EW has devoted six variant "special collector's covers" to the show's zombie apocalypse survivors -- including Steven Yeun as Glenn Rhee.

The magazine has done this before, although last time Glenn shared the cover with his lady love Maggie, played by Lauren Cohan (who also got her own cover this time). This set of covers is decidedly less action-y, but still depicts the survivors in a state of alert, ready for some shit to go down. Because shit's gonna go down.

For my fellow Walking Dead fans... In case you missed it, Entertainment Weekly recently ran multiple variant covers featuring characters from The Walking Dead, in anticipation of the upcoming new season of the hit AMC zombie drama. This includes Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan as your favorite post-apocalyptic couple Glenn and Maggie, in various expressions of undead-fighting distress:

'Cosmopolitan' executive editor replaces Lucy Danziger

Interesting... Magazine giant Conde Nast recently announced that Joyce Chang, current executive editor of Cosmopolitan, will replace Lucy Danziger as editor-in-chief of Self. She'll take over the job starting next month.

The news comes not long after the recent events of "tutugate," where Self found itself under criticism for running an insensitive feature mocking a tutu-clad marathon runner who also happened to be a cancer survivor. However, rumors about an editorial shakeup have apparently been swirling at Self for months.

In addition to Cosmopolitan, Chang's resume includes stints at Marie Claire, People StyleWatch, People Magazine, Lucky, The New York Times Magazine and Allure.

Bingbing and Booboo on Empire's epic X-Men cover(s)

Days of Future Past's Blink and Warpath have got each other's back, teleportation style



Yesterday, Empire Magazine released a gigantic series of 25 covers for its latest issue, each featuring a different character from the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. If you stick them all together, side-by-side in order, they make one long, super-giant image. (I wonder if anyone's going to buy all 25 covers. Reminds me of the good old days when Marvel launched the multi-cover X-Men #1. Ah, the nineties.)

The much-hyped Days of Future Past, which connects the timeline threads between the original X-Men trilogy and the groovy prequel X-Men: First Class, features a massive ensemble of X-characters, old and new -- including Fan Bingbing as Blink and Booboo Stewart as Warpath, who also each got a cover.

Check them out. If you look carefully, you can see they're actually standing on opposite ends of Blink's teleportation field (the pink swirly circle thing):

There's something different about Mindy Kaling's Elle cover

Mindy looks awesome, but she gets a significantly different look than her fellow cover gals



So cool to see actor/writer/producer Mindy Kaling looking hot and gracing the cover of Elle -- one of four covers featuring television's brightest female stars. She looks awesome... until you realize she didn't quite receive the same layout treatment as fellow cover gals Amy Poehler, Allison Williams and Zooey Deschanel.

Mindy -- the lone woman of color -- gets the black and white, up-close and cropped cover image, while Poehler, Williams and Deschanel all pretty much get the full-color body shot. What's up with that?

Maybe it's a simple coincidence. Maybe Elle editors didn't know what to do with Kaling's size 8 figure and browner-than-white complexion. Maybe they thought nobody would notice. Whatever the reason, it's a fairly significant case of one-of-these-things-is-not-like-the-other. And yes, people noticed.

Steven Yeun is one of People's Sexiest Men of 2013

It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.



And now for some Very Important news... Steven Yeun is one of the Sexiest Men Alive? You're damn right he is. Sexy Steven, who stars as Glenn on AMC's hit zombie drama The Walking Dead, has made it into the pages of People magazine's much-hyped annual "Sexiest Man" edition. He's not the Sexiest Man of the year, but he did make the coveted cut -- the sexy short list, if you will -- for the 2013 issue.

This should come as no surprise for fans of The Walking Dead. Whether he's swinging a machete at the undead, getting steamy with his lady love, or just generally looking sweaty and in need of a shower, the show's devoted know that your favorite Asian American zombie apocalypse survivor is pretty darn sexy is his own right.

He cleans up pretty nicely too. Here's a video of Steven -- shirtless! -- stripping down for his People photo shoot, where he defines sexiness as "how you exude your presence in the world." Do tell:

All Asians look the same... Google Glass edition!



Hey, People magazine, if you're going to identify someone as part of a billion-dollar love triangle, it's probably a good idea to get a handle on distinguishing between two Asian women. Put a pair of Google Glasses on them, and nobody's got a friggin' clue: People Accuses Wrong Asian Woman of Dating Sergey Brin.

This is downright silly. Last month, news broke that Google founder Sergey Brin is splitting with his wife Anne Wojcicki, amid reports that he is dating a 27-year-old employee, Amanda Rosenberg. Honestly, none of this is news I give a crap about... except when People has a hard time getting two Asian faces straight.

In its coverage of Brin's breakup, instead of posting an image of Rosenberg, People used a photo of completely different Asian woman, albeit also wearing the awkward Google eyewear. The photo is actually a cropped stock image of an unidentified non-Rosenberg woman taken on the streets of New York.
