"Me Love You Long Time" Comedian Gets Punched on Stage

It is immensely satisfying.

So this guy gets up on stage, puts on some chop suey specs, and starts harassing the Asians in the audience. I don't know anything about this so-called comedian Brett Eidman, but based on this one clip -- I'm not even entirely sure it's real -- he looks like an unfunny hack asshole who got what was coming to him.

victim identified in toronto body parts murder

Last week outside of Toronto, some hikers made a gruesome discovery when they stumbled across a human foot at Hewick Meadows Park in Mississauga. This led to the discovery of a head and two hands in the Credit River, and more human remains in West Highland Creek.

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Guant Hua Li, a licensed holistic practitioner and mother of three, last seen August 10 at her business, the Forget-Me-Not Health Care spa. Murder and dismemberment: Toronto body parts victim was licensed holistic practitioner.

It's been a weird summer of grisly violence out of Canada:

public interest projects establishes fund for dreamers

As you know, the Department of Homeland Security recently began accepting applications from certain undocumented youth and childhood arrivals seeking deferred action.

This is good news for many DREAMers, but the process requires applicants to clear some considerable hurdles, including a hefty $465 application fee.

In an effort to make sure no qualified applicant is deterred by a lack of funds, Public Interest Projects has established the Fund for DREAMers, which will assist elegible young people, particularly low-income individuals, offset the $465 application fee:

83-year-old man guilty of killing hospital roommate

A while back, I posted about an 83-year-old man who was charged with murder in the death of his 94-year-old rehabilitation center roommate.

Last week, William Leo McDougall was convicted of killing Van Nguyen after beating him several times in the head with a metal rod: Man, 83, faces life in prison in killing of 94-year-old roommate.

McDougall apparently became angry at Nguyen for singing in Vietnamese. They were sharing the same room at the Palm Terrace Healthcare Center, where they were both recovering after hip surgery:

national film society's awesome asian bad guys update #2

Here are my homeboys Patrick and Stephen, aka National Film Society, with a new progress report on what's going on their upcoming web series Awesome Asian Bad Guys. They've enlisted the help -- perhaps unwillingly -- of some quality individuals to help write, produce and act in this thing. Check it out:

unshuffled cards pay off big for atlantic city gamblers

Daaaaaaang. Some casino patrons in New Jersey unexpectedly got one hell of a payoff when were dealt cards from an unshuffled deck, causing big headaches for the casino: Golden Nugget suing card maker after unshuffled cards pay off big for gamblers.

By the time all was said and done, fourteen players at a game of mini-baccarat at the Gold Nugget Atlantic City had racked up more than $1.5 million in 41 winnings hands.

The Golden Nugget says it was unshuffled deck, and is not only suing the playing card manufacturer, but also the gamblers, saying they unlawfully took advantage of the situation. The players, in turn, are suing the casino for their winnings. After all, they didn't do anything wrong:

samurai at the sphinx

Saw this on io9, and I think the headline pretty much sums it up: A Strong Contender For The Most Bad-Ass Photo Ever Taken.

That's a big group of actual samurai standing next to the actual Giza Sphinx. No, this isn't Photoshop trickery. This photo was taken in 1864, when a group of Japanese diplomatic emissaries, en route to France, made a pit stop in Egypt. They captured the moment with a photo op -- in full samurai regalia.

There is most certainly a movie that needs to be made, inspired by this photo. Somebody, get on it. More info on the photo here. (Thanks, Johnny.)

bank of canada apologizes for $100 bill race redesign

Last week, news emerged that the Bank of Canada's original design for the new $100 bill, which included an image of Asian woman scientist, was shot down by negative focus group reactions and redrawn to represent a more "neutral" ethnicity. The news did not sit well with the internets.

No doubt feeling the heat for this revelation, the Bank of Canada issued a public apology for removing the image, saying that it mishandled the situation and will review the design process. Well, great for you, Bank of Canada: Bank of Canada apologizes for ‘Asian-looking’ woman debacle.

research survey: impact of discrimination on asian american lgb persons

I recently heard from Brittany Sievers, a research assistant with Dr. Frances Shen at the University of Illinois Springfield. They are conducting a research study on the impact of discrimination on Asian American LGB persons, and are looking for eligible folks to fill out an online survey.

The hope is that this research will go towards increasing awareness of the experiences and needs of the Asian American LGB community. Here's some more information about the survey:

clara c covers "titanium"

Oh, Clara's done it again. Here's the latest video from singer/songwriter from Clara C, performing a very cool original rendition of David Guetta and Sia's "Titanium." I really like this song, and this is like a completely different, equally wonderful version of the track. Check it out:

angry poetry corner: "breakfast" by prince f. alvior

We're getting poetic up here. It's time for another installment of Angry Poetry Corner, a regular weekly spotlight on the work of API poets -- not necessarily angry -- curated by Cara, our Angry Asian Intern. Because you could use a little more poetry in your life.

In the corner this week, a poem by Prince F. Alvior:

An awesome box of Sonny Liew's Malinky Robot

This nifty looking care package arrived in the mail the other day. When I opened it up, it contained a box full of awesome stuff from Singapore-based comic artist/illustrator Sony Liew, touting his rad graphic novel Malinky Robot. Call me a sucker for cool-ass packaging, but this was too cool not to share:

ken watanabe to star in samurai remake of unforgiven

And today in badass movie news... A samurai version of Unforgiven? Hell yeah. None other than Ken Watanabe will reportedly star in a Japanese remake of Clint Eastwood's Oscar-winning western: Ken Watanabe to Star in Japanese Remake of 'Unforgiven.'

Set in 1880, like the original film, Yurusarezaru Mono (A Thing That Can't Be Forgiven) sounds like it's going to be a pound-for-pound remake of Unforgiven, with the western elements -- a warrior with a violent past, one last job, an evil lawman -- switched out with samurai analogues.

I can already imagine it, and what I'm imagining is pretty darn cool...

victoria's secret's "sexy little geisha." seriously.

Saw this here... Now, don't get all excited, ya pervs. But have you seen Victoria's Secret's new Go East line of lingerie? Yup. Asian-inspired. With "touches of eastern delight," whatever the hell that means.

This one above's probably the worst of the bunch, called Sexy Little Geisha. Seriously. And it's not even Halloween yet. Yaaaay, hooray for exotic orientalist bullshit. (Thanks, Hannah.)

new book claims richard aoki was fbi informant

My head is spinning. Richard Aoki is revered as a fierce radical Bay Area activist, best remembered as a member of the Black Panther Party.

So here's the news that came like a punch to the gut. A new book claims that the Asian American militant icon was actually an undercover FBI informer: Man who armed Black Panthers was FBI informant, records show.

Aoki's work for the FBI was apparently uncovered during research for a new book, Subversives: The FBI's War on Student Radicals, and Reagan's Rise to Power, which will be published tomorrow. The book says Aoki was covertly filing reports on the activities of radical Bay Area political groups:
