Two remaining jail escapees captured in San Francisco

Hossein Nayeri and Jonathan Tieu were apprehended after their van was spotted in a Whole Foods parking lot.



All three of the inmates who broke out of an Orange County jail more than a week ago, launching a statewide manhunt, are back in custody. One of the men turned himself in on Friday, while the other two escapees were apprehended in San Francisco on Saturday after a citizen who recognized their vehicle tipped off police.

37-year-old Hossein Nayeri and 20-year-old Jonathan Tieu were captured on Saturday morning after a citizen in San Francisco alerted police officers about a suspicious person and a vehicle, matching the description of a stolen white van associated with the fugitives, in a Whole Foods Market parking lot.

Orange County jail escapee surrenders to police

Bac Duong, one of three inmates who escaped from an Orange County jail last week, sparking a region-wide manhunt, is in custody after surrendering to police on Friday. The two other inmates remain at large.

Duong, 43, turned himself in to Santa Ana police after a friend or acquaintance called police. Duong reportedly walked into a business called Auto Electric Builders and told an acquaintance, who worked there, that he wanted to turn himself in. She contacted police, and the place soon was soon surrounded by cops.

Duong is one of three inmates who broke out of the maximum security Orange County Men's Jail last Friday. The three inmates reportedly cut through steel bars, forced their way into a plumbing tunnel and used a "makeshift rope" to rappel down the multistory facility from the roof.

37-year-old Hossein Nayeri and 20-year-old Jonathan Tieu remain at large.

Suspect arrested in vicious attack on 83-year-old man

Assailant was caught on video punching and kicking an elderly man in an unprovoked attack.



Over the weekend in Southern California, police arrested a suspect in the vicious assault of an 83-year-old man last week in a shopping mall parking lot. The seemingly unprovoked incident was caught on video.

29-year-old Demarrea Chante Barnes, who is described as a transient, was arrested on suspicion of attacking Tuyen Nguyen, who was hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage and broken facial bones.

The attack was caught on surveillance video, which shows Nguyen unassumingly walking through a parking lot in Santa Ana on Friday morning, when the assailant jumps into the frame and punches him, knocking him to the ground. He then punches Nguyen at least two more times before kicking him and walking away.

Caught! Asians behaving badly update. In Southern California, the woman who was caught on surveillance video after repeatedly throwing glass bottles at statues outside a Buddhist temple has been arrested.

45-year-old Trang Thu Pham was caught on camera chucking bottles at Buddha statues outside the Hoc Tich Buddhist Temple in Santa Ana. There were at least eight incidents between December 16 and January 6. She was finally caught after someone spotted her, recognized her from news reports and called the cops.

Pham told detectives she didn't have any problems with the Buddhist religion -- she apparently had some sort of personal issue with someone associated with the temple.

Asians behaving badly... Buddha statue vandal edition! In Orange County, authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman caught on security camera repeatedly vandalizing a Buddhist temple.

Surveillance video shows an unknown woman throwing glass bottles over a fence at statues of Buddha, locatd at the front the Hong Tich Buddhist Temple in Santa Ana. She has apparently done this multiple times.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, there have been eight incidents of bottles being thrown at the temple in the past three weeks, causing damage to the statues.

Two women sentenced to six years for fatal nightclub beating

Candace Brito and Vanesa Zavala were convicted of manslaughter in the brawl that killed Kim Pham.


News out of Southern California... On Friday in Orange County, the two women convicted of manslaughter in the fatal beating of 23-year-old Annie Kim Pham were each sentenced to six years in state prison.

27-year-old Candace Brito and 26-year-old Vanesa Zavala were convicted of voluntary manslaughter and assault, but were acquitted of a second-degree murder charge, in the brutal fight that killed Pham outside a Santa Ana nightclub last January. The defendants claimed they were acting in self-defense.

The fight apparently started as a verbal argument between two groups of friends, but escalated when Pham threw the first punch. She fell to the ground and was kicked in the head during the brawl, sustaining brain damage. She died two days later when she was taken off life support.

Catching up on news of the criminally creepy and sleepy... In Santa Ana, California, a man was arrested after breaking into a home, taking off his clothes and climbing into bed with a sleeping woman. He ran off, but was eventually arrested because he left behind his driver's license, among other important items. Oops.

Suspected burglar arrested after being found in woman's bed

29-year-old Jonathan Phan allegedly broke into the residence last month by climbing through a window, then removed his clothes, and fell asleep at the foot of a woman's bed. When the woman woke up and saw him, she screamed, prompting Phan to get the hell out of there by jumping out of the window.

In the commotion, Phan forgot to gather his belongings, including his pants, cellphone and wallet -- which contained his identification. That made things kind of easy for police.

Two women to stand trial for murder of Kim Pham

Undercover cop posed as inmate to get Vanesa Zavala to talk



Two women accused in the beating death of 23-year-old Kim Pham last month outside a Santa Ana nightclub have been ordered to stand trial on murder charges. During a preliminary hearing, police played cellphone videos that show Vanesa Zavala and Candace Brito punching and kicking Pham before she lost consciousness.

Zavala, 25, and Brito, 27, have both pleaded not guilty in Pham's death, who was taken off life support after the altercation left her brain dead. According to prosecutors, Brito punched and kicked Pham multiple times in the head. After she was pulled away, Zavala punched Pham once more in the head with her booted foot.

While the shocking death of Kim Pham, the 23-year-old woman who was brutally beaten outside a Santa Ana nightclub, continues to resonate, her tragic end will at least have a life-giving legacy. Her organs have already been donated and used to help sustain the lives of five patients waiting for transplants.

Nightclub victim's organs have 'saved five lives,' agency says

Pham's heart, kidney, lungs, pancreas and liver were donated to patients on the national organ transplant waiting list. She also donated tissues including "skin used for burn dressings, bone to repair fractures and prevent amputations, and bone marrow for orthopedic use."

Pham died of complications from blunt force trauma to the head after she was punched, kicked and knocked to the ground outside a nightclub on January 18. She was declared dead the next day, but remained connected to a ventilator for two more days to make sure her organs would be available for transplantation.

In Orange County, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal beating death of 23-year-old Kim Pham, who was hit and kicked by multiple assailants outside a Santa Ana nightclub last weekend. Police say a third woman is being sought in connection with the incident.

Second woman arrested in Santa Ana nightclub beating; third sought

Pham died Tuesday after being taken off life support. According to friends, the fight might have been set off when she accidentally walked in front of a camera as a another group posed for a photo.

25-year-old Vanesa Zavala, accused of taking part in the attack, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case. She pleaded not guilty and is being held on $1 million bail. According to her attorney, Zavala apparently feels "devastated" by Pham's death.

A second suspect, identified by police as a 27-year-old woman from Santa Ana, has been taken into custody.

Police have released the photo of a third "person of interest." Authorities initially said that five people were being sought in the beating, but have since clarified that only three women were believed to be involved in the incident.

I'm sorry, but that has to be the stupidest reason ever for getting into a fight.

There still aren't a lot of details about how the altercation unfolded, but police say the argument broke out between Pham's friends and another group in line outside the club, then escalated into a physical fight. Witnesses say Pham was hit, kicked and stomped on by several people even after she fell to the ground.

Authorities are asking for the public's help identifying suspects involved in the assault.

23-year-old Kim Pham was brutally beaten by a group of five people outside The Crosby, a popular nightclub. The incident apparently started when Pham, who was waiting in line with friends, got into an argument with another group that escalated into a physical altercation. According to witnesses, the group -- three females and two males -- kicked and stomped on Pham even after she fell to the ground.

This week in unlawful martial arts weapon usage... On Saturday in Santa Ana, California, a man was arrested after allegedly threatening bystanders with samurai swords at a busy shopping center: Santa Ana man arrested on suspicion of wielding samurai swords.

29-year-old Hung Ahn Nguyen was booked on suspicion of possession of illegal swords and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as an outstanding warrant for a narcotics violations.

Santa Ana police responded to a call that a man was swinging samurai-style swords, screaming profanities and threatening bystanders in the parking lot of Arsenio's Mexico Food. When he refused to put the swords down, officers used a taser on him:
