So you sit down in the salon chair to get your hair done... and get smacked in the head with some every day racism. That's what happened to an Asian woman who recently saw herself described as "chinky eyes" on a receipt at a Manhattan hair salon. Yup, the racial receipt. We know it well.

Briana Tae was getting her hair blown out at the Drybar in Murray Hill in anticipation of her upcoming nursing school pinning ceremony. But when she saw the receipt slip describing her service, she saw that under the category "Description" one of the employees had scrawled the derogatory slur to describe her.

"I'm sorry, what?" Tae wrote in a Facebook post, sharing a photo of the receipt. "I was the ONLY customer waiting with my friend and rather than describe me by my hair that was in a bun or by my black jacket or as a girl with a friend, I was described as a girl with chinky eyes."

This again. It's the return of the Racial Receipt! The latest sighting occurred in New York, where a Manhattan restaurant recently apologized for referring to an Asian American customer as "Ching Chong" on a receipt.

Last Wednesday, a server at Cornerstone Cafe in the East Village entered an Asian customer's name as "Ching Chong" on the slip for a to-go order of steak and eggs. Because why bother asking for a customer's actual name when you can silently mock them with a racial slur, right under their nose?

The incident started picking up attention when a friend of the customer, Facebook user Ziggy Chau, posted a photo of the offending receipt on social media. That's when the internet went in on Cornerstone Cafe.

Rachel Mau, a server at the IHOP in Virginia Beach, says the incident occurred when she waited on a group of high school students on Saturday morning. On one of the receipts, in the area where customers are supposed to add a tip, they left the xenophobic reference to Donald Trump's proposed wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

On the split bill's other receipt, the customers simply wrote "Nah."

Ah, this again. A Papa John's Pizza employee in Kentucky apparently couldn't be bothered to write the name of an Asian American customer, and instead decided to designate the recent order's recipient as "Ching Ching."

The incident happened over the weekend at the Papa John's location on Taylorsville Rd. in Louisville. It seems that the customer, who is Korean American, got her pizza with an extra unwanted order of racism. On the box label accompanying her order, someone had identified her as "Ching Ching." (Her name is not Ching Ching.)

Laura M. Cheifetz, whose colleague attends church with the customer, shared a photo of the label on social media, urging folks let Papa John's know how they feel about racism with their pizza.

Upon receiving her check at Faces & Names Lounge & Bar in midtown, she noticed that she had been identified simply as "Asian Girl."

Grace tweeted that when she called out her waitress about the receipt, she responded, "I can't be racist. I dated an Asian guy." (As a general rule of life, let it be known that "I can't be racist, I dated a _______ girl/guy" is not an appropriate or compelling response in any situation.)

Ah, yes. The racial receipt strikes again! A recent customer at a Chick-fil-A location in Detroit was surprised to discover that instead of his name, the cashier had simply referred to him as "Chinese guy" on his receipt.

Winston Chow, who is indeed of Chinese descent, recently bought a sandwich at the Chick-fil-A location in the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Only later, when he looked at his receipt, he realized that Nia, the cashier, had identified him as "Chinese guy" in the space where, presumably, the customer's name should be entered.

"Now I know why they didn't ask for my name when taking my order," Winston remarked, sharing a photo of his receipt on social media. He also posted the photo on Chick-Fil-A's Facebook page. While he's been a fan of the fast food chain for over thirty years, he says he was pretty offended.

"How about some racial sensitivity or discretion next time?!"

Oh look, this shit again. Last week in Chicago, a McDonald's employee was fired after writing "CHINO" and drawing a racist caricature -- referring to an Asian American customer -- on a coffee cup order.

Paul Kim, who is Korean American, was at the McDonald's Kedzie and Foster when he noticed that "CHINO" -- a Spanish slang term for Asian -- was written on his uncle's coffee cup, along with a racist caricature of an Asian face. Yes, those three lines are supposed to be a face.

Over the weekend, a Sikh man examined his Nathan's receipt to discover the cashier had referred to him as "Osama."

On Sunday, Parampal Singh Ghai and his father were driving up I-95 to New York when they pulled over at a rest stop in Aberdeen, Maryland. They ordered food at Nathan's Famous, when Parampal, who wears a turban in observance of his Sikh faith, realized that the cashier had written his name as "Osama" on the receipt.

This is brought to our attention by a reader named Warren, who became the latest recipient of the racial receipt during a recent visit with friends to The Golden Pear Cafe in East Hampton, New York.

Upon ordering his food -- a breakfast burrito and a smoothie -- and taking a seat, he was shocked and disheartened to learn that on his receipt, in the space designated for the customer's name, the cashier, Karina, had identified Warren simply as "CHINO." And yes, Warren is Asian, which Karina clearly made note of.

The thing about racial receipts is that it works both ways. There are terrible customers, and there are just plain assholes. This receipt, shared on Facebook, is strong evidence of the latter, with a big fat dash of bigotry.

This receipt was signed by a customer who dined Sunday evening at Fasai Thai Restaurant in Anaheim. He was apparently dissatisfied with the speed of the service -- it was busy night -- and left a tip in the amount of hella rude dollars and racial slur cents. Specifically, the message: "HURRY THE FUCK UP ZIPPERHEAD."

Damn. This again. Don't have a lot of information to go on with this one, but Twitter user @JonWalkerBlue passed along this photo of a drink order his friend, who is Asian, received on a recent visit to Starbucks.

By now, you already know where this is going.

As you can see, in the space on the cup designated for the customer's name, the Starbucks employee simply wrote "China." That's a Mocha Frappuccino. Her name is Jenny. It's not even close to China.

Not this again. Got word passed along to me about a recent racist incident involving a FedEx employee... In northern Virginia, a FedEx employee left a doortag regarding a package delivery to the residence of an Asian customer. In the space denoting the recipient's name, the delivery man wrote "Ching Chong Lee."

Oh, hell no.

Diana L., whose parents received the doortag, contacted customer service to inquire about the name on the package, and how exactly this happened. During the course of this attempted delivery, "Chang" somehow became "Ching Chong" -- a familiar racial slur we all know and love. This was not somebody's honest mistake.

Got this passed along to me from a friend of a friend, who gives us our latest edition of Racial Receipts.

A recent shopper at the clothing chain bebe was handed this receipt after buying an item. As you can see, the customer, who is Asian American, is identified on the receipt as "Yoko Ono." This is not the customer's name.

The transaction took place last week at the bebe location at South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach, California. As you can see, the customer purchased a sleeveless tie-front top for $69.00 plus tax. She paid in cash. She apparently didn't even notice the name on the receipt until she got home.

For real? There's not a lot of information to go on, but I got this passed along to me, and the simple, bold casual racism of it -- by a representative from a major corporation -- just makes you shake your head.

A woman who recently received a package via UPS discovered that her delivery came with some colorful, racist language. In the delivery documentation, someone -- presumably, the UPS employee responsible for the delivery -- made note that the package was signed for by "CHINK."

Got this passed along to me from a reader named Joseph, who became the most recent recipient of a racial receipt. What the heck is that? Oh, it's more common than you might realize.

You know when you go to a fast food or coffee joint like Starbucks, and they take your name to identify your order? Sometimes, your servers get lazy with the name-taking, and take it upon themselves to rename you with terms like "Ching" and "Chong." Or maybe they get creative, and bestow a title like "Lady Chinky Eyes." We've seen it happen enough that we can give it a name. The Racial Receipt.

In this case, the cashier working in the early morning hours at Goldberg's Bagel & Deli Company at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport couldn't be bothered with taking Joseph's name, instead going for a much simpler identifier: "Asian Guy." Joseph explains:

Several people have sent this one my way... Over the years, we've seen our share of racist Starbucks cups and fast food receipts. It's a weird, disturbing trend. Now, a Starbucks customer in Connecticut is calling foul over a recent drink order where the word "China" was written on his drink cup.

David, who is Asian American, was at a Starbucks in New York City when he received the cup in question. He snapped the photo above and posted it on Facebook, which got the attention of the local Fox news affiliate: Controversy At Starbucks Over What Was Written On Cup.

Customer sues CVS for "Ching Chong Lee" on racist receipt

I'm sure somebody thought they were being clever. That somebody needs to get fired.


Oh hell no. Not this again. The latest edition of Racist Receipts comes from New Jersey... And Asian American woman is suing a CVS Pharmacy, where an employee referred to her with a racial slur -- "Ching Chong Lee" -- on her receipt: N.J. woman sues CVS for $1M, saying worker used Asian slur on her receipt.

Hyun Lee was picking up photos being developed at a CVS in Egg Harbor City, when she noticed the racial slur on her receipt. Yes, "ching chong" is a racial slur. Ms. Lee's actual f$%king name was apparently too difficult to type in, so the employee took it upon themselves to use something more convenient.

Oh, man. Not this again. Recent racist incidents involving employees at Chick-Fil-A ("CHING CHONG") and Papa John's Pizza ("Lady Chinky Eyes") have had me checking my receipts lately. Some ignorant-ass joker could be mocking you right in front of your face. But hey, why use words for your favorite racial slurs when you can draw them?

Last month at a Starbucks Coffee location in Alpharetta, Georgia, two Korean customers -- who are not native English speakers -- discovered that their barista had identified them by drawing "chinky eyes" on their drinks. You know, where they usually write your name? OH NO THEY DIDN'T. Yes, they did.

As you can see, an employee took the liberty of giving her the nickname "lady chinky eyes." An employee who, no doubt, will soon be out of a job.
