Stop ordering spicy noodles with no spice

A personal message from the CEO of Xi'an Famous Foods.

Look, if you go to Xi'an Famous Foods and order your noodles "not spicy" -- honestly, what's the point? -- then complain that the food is "too bland," that shit is on you. I'm sorry, but you have made a bad life choice.

The New York City noodle chain has an important advisory for its customers: "Not Spicy = Not As Good." Xi'an's CEO Jason Wang recently posted a "personal message" to customers at the company's 14 locations, warning people that if they order certain menu items as "not spicy," they may be disappointed. You can have it the way you want it. Just know that the way you want it... does not taste good.

Tabasco maker introduces its own Sriracha

Latest imitator getting in on the hot sauce hustle

We all know that there is one true Sriracha. Huy Fong Foods has had a lock on the game for years, making that legit spicy, sweet goodness we know and love. That hasn't stopped imitators from trying to get in on the hot sauce hustle. Trader Joe's introduced its own version last year, to mixed reviews. Now the company behind the ubiquitous Tabasco brand has unveiled its own take on Sriracha Thai chili sauce.

Tabasco Company Introduces Its Own Sriracha

The Louisiana-based McIlhenny Co., makers of Tabasco sauce, recently introduced its own version of Sriracha last week, quietly making 15-ounce bottles of TABASCO® Premium Sriracha Sauce available for sale from the company's official online store. The sauce is described as "a masterful blend of spicy, sweet and savory flavors, that is authentic to South East Asian cuisine."

Could the Sriracha factory relocate to another state?

Politicians are trying to woo Huy Fong Foods to more supportive, spice-friendly locales

The Saga of Sriracha continues. As you know, the embattled Huy Fong Foods, makers of that sweet, fiery goodness, have been entangled in a heated struggle with the city of Irwindale over perceived odors emanating from the company's Sriracha factory, where they manufacture and bottle the green-tipped saucy magic.

Well, if it's that much trouble to stick around Irwindale, why not just pick up and go somewhere less hostile to the hotness? That's what some out-of state politicians are hoping Huy Fong CEO David Tran will considering, promising a more welcoming environment if his Sriracha plant is willing to relocate.

Sriracha Factory Irritates Some California Noses, but Entices Politicians

This week, a delegation of Texas lawmakers and state officials toured the hot sauce plant in an attempt to lure Huy Fong out of California to the more supportive, spice-friendly Lone Star State.

Sriracha factory declared a public nuisance

Irwindale City Council unanimously declares odor from hot sauce plant a "public nuisance."

The siege on Sriracha continues! If you've been following the saga, you know that it's been a troublesome, embattled year for Huy Fong Foods, the makers of your favorite green-tipped hot sauce.

This week, after dealing with complaints from neighbors about an alleged strong odor emanating from the Sriracha plant in Irwindale, the City Council officially declared the factory a public nuisance.

Sriracha hot sauce factory smell deemed a public nuisance by Irwindale

Oh hell no. On Wednesday night, the Irwindale City Council unanimously declared the factory a public nuisance. The declaration gives Huy Fong Foods 90 days to find a way to contain the odor, or city officials will be allowed to enter the factory and fix the problems themselves.

What did I say about starting your Sriracha stockpile?

Sriracha rationing (Limit: 1 bottle) spotted at Korean market in Glendale

It has begun, hot sauce fans. My friends, the above photo was snapped by Instagram user jewelee208 earlier this week at a Korean market in Glendale. Yes, they're limiting purchases of Sriracha to one bottle per customer. There appear to be plenty of bottles on the shelf, but how long will they last?

Srirachapocalypse: Local Store Is Rationing Rooster Sauce

I trust you've heard about the ongoing Saga of Sriracha. The Huy Fong Foods factory that makes our beloved sweet, spicy goodness was ordered shut down, courtesy of smell complaints from its neighbors in Irwindale. Then shipments of all sauces were halted by the health department, delaying new inventory for a month.

And this is the result. We've got HK Mart limiting Sriracha purchases. I don't know if this is part of a broader trend of retailers rationing their rooster sauce supply, or ifHK Mart is reacting to, like, one outrageous dude who came in last week and loaded up a shopping cart full of bottles. But something is definitely in the wind.

Stay strong, Sriracha fans.

Sriracha shipments halted by the health department

Srirachapocalypse Now: The Hot Sauce Conspiracy Continues

Okay, seriously. You really might want to start stockpiling bottles of Sriracha. You know that a judge stopped production at the hot sauce factory after its weak sauce neighbors in Irwindale complained about the strong odor. Now manufacturer Huy Fong Foods can't ship out any more sauce until mid-January because the California Department of Public Health has begun enforcing stricter guidelines for the company.

Sriracha shipping halted until mid-January by state regulators

The company's three sauces, Sriracha, Chili Garlic and Sambal Oelek, now must be held for at least 30 days before they can shipped to food distributors and wholesalers. That means the next shipment of those glorious green-tipped bottles will not go out until the middle of next month. That's a long time for Sriracha fans.

It's the latest setback for Huy Fong. Even with the court ruling about the odor, at least they'd finished processing the chilis needed to bottle their batch of sauce. It doesn't look like they were anticipating the hold period.

"Rep the cock, so it don't stop."

So we've been following the saga of the Sriracha plant in Irwindale, where the makers of that red spicy magic have been in a battle with the city and its weak sauce residents, whose complaints about strong smells emanating from the factory eventually got a judge to order a production shutdown. That ain't right!

Sriracha has a message for its neighbors in Irwindale

"NO TEAR GAS MADE HERE"

So the Sriracha factory has been shut down. Last week, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered the Huy Fong Foods plant in Irwindale, where they manufacture and bottle that magical spicy goodness, to cease operations in response to odor complaints from nearby residents. Time to start your Sriracha stockpile.

So how is Huy Fong CEO David Tran handling the shutdown? By being his usual badass self. After all, he is the maker of the awesomest sauce in the land. Take note of the green "NO TEAR GAS MADE HERE" banner they've defiantly posted outside the factory, sending a message to their Irwindale neighbors.

Time to start your Sriracha stockpile

Judge rules hot sauce must stop production. Srirachapocalypse now.

Noooooo! Hot sauce fans, the unthinkable has happened. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ordered the Sriracha plant in Irwindale, California to shut down in response to odor complaints from nearby residents: Sriracha plant must cease operations that cause odors, judge rules

Last month, the city of Irwindale filed a lawsuit against Huy Fong Foods, the sorcerers behind the popular spicy red elixir, after nearby residents complained of burning eyes, irritated throats, headaches and other ailments caused by the odor emanating from the Sriracha production facilities. The request for a temporary restraining order was denied, allowing the factory to grind the chilis needed for next year's sauce supply.

But on Tuesday, Judge Robert H. O'Brien ruled in favor of the city and ordered Huy Fong to cease all operations that could be causing odors, calling the smell "extremely annoying, irritating and offensive to the senses warranting consideration as a public nuisance."

Breathe easy, Sriracha lovers.

Judge rules hot sauce factory can stay open.

It's all good, hot sauce fans. I think you can hold off on your plans to stockpile all those green-tipped bottles of Sriracha... for now. A judge has ruled that the production plant in Irwindale, California, where they make the sweet spicy red goodness, can stay open: Sriracha factory can stay open for now, judge rules.

The city of Irwindale filed a lawsuit earlier this week against Huy Fong Foods after residents complained of the strong odor of ground peppers emanating from the factory. Some nearby residents complained of burning eyes and throats, and the city claimed the plant was a public nuisance in violation of municipal code.

But on Thursday, a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge denied the city of Irwindale's request for a temporary restraining order, which means the factory can finish processing the peppers needed for next year's Sriracha supply. Odor problem? What odor problem? All I smell is the awesome scent of rooster sauce:

Sriracha is too spicy for the city of Irwindale

City files suit against hot sauce plant after residents complain about saucy odor.

The citizens of Irwindale, California can't handle the heat. Or rather, the smell. The city is home to Huy Fong Foods' production plant, where they make the popular spicy red elixir known as Sriracha. The hot sauce's green-tipped goodness is known far and wide. But here in Irwindale, it apparently just stinks -- enough for the city the file a lawsuit: Sriracha sauce factory odor causing headaches, burning eyes, city says.

Residents have been complaining of burning eyes, irritated throats and headaches caused by the potent odor emanating from the Sriracha production facilities. Officials have reportedly tried work with Huy Fong representatives to address the smell, to no avail. This week, the city of Irwindale filed suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claiming that the smell is a public nuisance and asking a judge to stop production until the smell can be reduced.

Rooster vs. Dragon: Trader Joe's has its own Sriracha Sauce

What is this?! What is this sad, unworthy imitation of our favorite tangy, spicy elixir?

Trader Joe's has stocked its sauce shelves with its own version of Sriracha, packaged in a familiar-looking green-tipped bottle, but swapping out the rooster illustration with a fire-breathing dragon. How does the rooster fare in a fight against the dragon? OC Weekly did the taste test: Trader Joe's Now Has Its Own Sriracha.

Dragon sauce? No way. I cannot purchase the TJ version, just on principle. I will not betray the man who turned up the heat. Just look at that face. I will stay true to the rooster. Huy Fong forever!
