If you needed a reason to lock your windows and doors...

Surveillance video captures burglar hovering over sleeping toddler's crib in the middle of the night

Here's a creepy story that will have you double-checking your locks at night... In Katy, Texas, a family's security cameras caught a burglar breaking in and creeping through their house undetected -- stopping to hang out in the bedroom of a toddler -- while everyone was sound asleep.

Intruder creeps through toddler's room, hovers over crib

The teenage burglar, who slipped through an unlocked first-story window, is seen in surveillance footage sneaking through the house, going room to room, and spending five minutes walking in and out of the bedroom of the family's 2-year-old boy. Thinh Le and the rest of the family slept through the whole thing.

Here's the surveillance video:

Baz Luhrmann in talks to direct movie adaptation of 'Kung Fu'

But who will play Kwai Chang Caine?

Dude. No. Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, the guy behind The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge, is reportedly in talks to direct a big screen adaptation of the 1970s martial arts western television show Kung Fu.

Baz Luhrmann in Talks to Direct 'Kung Fu' for Legendary

The hit show, which aired on ABC from 1972 to 1975, followed the adventures of Kwai Chang Chaine, a biracial Shaolin monk who roamed the American west in search of his half brother, righting wrongs along the way.

For many, Kung Fu will likely be remembered as the show originally conceived as a star vehicle for Bruce Lee, only to see him replaced for a more audience-friendly Caucasian lead actor. How freaking cool would it have been to see Bruce in that role? Alas, all this show gave us was the bitter legacy of yellowface.

This movie script has apparently moved the story to China, with Caine in search of his father.

Bruce Lee lives! As a video game character.

Legendary martial artist to appear as fighter in UFC game

His movie career may have been cut short, but Bruce Lee's global legacy has been immeasurable. And soon, gamers will be able to battle Bruce in the Octagon. EA Sports will pay homage to the legendary martial artist by bringing him to life as a mystery fighter in an upcoming UFC video game.

Bruce Lee is EA Sports UFC's mystery fighter

Last week, EA Sports announced that Bruce Lee, who is often called the original mixed martial artist, will appear in EA Sports UFC. Players will be able to unlock Bruce Lee in flyweight, bantam weight, featherweight and lightweight divisions by finishing the game's career mode on pro difficulty or higher.

Here's the trailer where you can get a brief glimpse of Bruce in the game:

Watch out for those sneaky Asian pitchers

"Typical Asian motion. Deception involved."

This week in sportscasters who should shut the f*ck up... Watch and listen as this asshole announcer calls out a baseball player for employing "deception"... because he happens to be Asian. Typically Asian, apparently.

Hawk Harrelson Should Probably Not Suggest "Asians" Are "Deceptive"

During the broadcast of Thursday night's Indians/White Sox game, announcer Ken "Hawk" Harrelson took the liberty of providing some color commentary about Cleveland pitcher Chen-Chang lee, who is from Taiwan.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lee threw a nasty slider to Alexei Ramirez. Swing and a miss. Harrelson could only describe the pitch as a "typical Asian motion. Deception involved." Gotta watch out for those Asians!

Chinatown community leader pleads guilty to embezzlement

Gene Lee pleaded guilty to federal charges of embezzlement and tax fraud

Asians behaving badly... Chinatown embezzlement edition! This week in Chicago, a longtime community leader and former top aide to Mayor Richard M. Daley pleaded guilty to federal charges of embezzlement and tax fraud after stealing thousands of dollars from Chinatown charities and failing to report the money on his taxes.

Ex-top aide to Daley pleads guilty to misusing charity funds

65-year-old Gene Lee was arrested last summer after federal prosecutors said he stole donated money while head of both the Chicago Chinatown Summer Fair and the Chicago Dragons Athletic Association.

Prosecutors allege Lee took more than $90,000 between 2007 and 2010. The funds were supposed to be used for basketball tournaments and cultural outreach programs, but he apparently spent the cash on himself and didn't pay taxes on it. Because, you know, he stole it.

New TV docu-series explores Asian American diaspora

'I'm Asian American and...' premieres April 23 on Myx TV

Myx TV just dropped the trailer for its latest original series, I'm Asian American and..., a new documentary series focusing the diverse Asian American diaspora, following unique and sometimes controversial individuals who don't fit the "model minority" stereotype. If this sounds familiar, I posted a casting call this series last year.

Shot in and around Los Angeles, the series consists of ten episodes, each featuring real people challenging stereotypes about Asian Americans in their everyday lives, from a lawyer who fights human trafficking to a living doll; a dog nanny, a big-time radio DJ, a triplet whose siblings have autism, and more.

The show premieres April 23 on Myx TV. Here's the trailer:

Fund This: The Pink Sorrys, An Acid Punk Bollywood Musical

This is the acid punk Bollywood revenge musical we've been waiting for.

I must see this film get made! The Pink Sorrys is described as a highly stylized acid punk Bollywood music about the real gangs of Indian women who enact vigilante justice against rapists. Whaaaaaat. Hell yeah. I honestly don't need any more information than that. The project is winding down the final hours of its Kickstarter campaign, and could use your help to meet its funding goal.

Writer/director team Ben Stoddard and Anam Syed are out to make a bold film that seeks to address the sensitive issue of rape in South Asia in a "stylized, kickass fashion." The Pink Sorrys is a blend of imagery from their favorite gangster films and Bollywod musicals. Watch this video for more details:

Cosmo's Joyce Chang Replaces Lucy Danziger as Editor in Chief of Self

The news comes not long after the recent events of "tutugate," where Self found itself under criticism for running an insensitive feature mocking a tutu-clad marathon runner who also happened to be a cancer survivor. In addition to Cosmopolitan, Chang's resume includes stints at Marie Claire, People StyleWatch, People Magazine, Lucky, The New York Times Magazine and Allure.

I think I've generally trained my eyes to ignore the paid content that gets inserted on to my Facebook... but I couldn't help but do a double take when I spotted this craptastic ad for Air France.

Yes, I love seeing pointless cultural drag used to hock air travel. The ad, part of Air France's "France is in the Air" campaign, employs the usual geisha imagery with a white model rocking some yellowface for that Orientalist zing!

20 Years of Angry Little Asian Girl, 1994-2014

Congratulations on two decades of Anger

One of the repeat questions I've gotten over the years: "Angry Asian Man? Are you at all related to Angry Little Asian Girl?" No. Not in any sort of trademarked affiliation. But I consider her a true sibling in Anger with a capital A. And definitely a major spiritual inspiration for the earliest iteration of this blog.

So, a massive congratulations goes my friend Lela Lee, creator of the comic strip Angry Little Asian Girl, which is celebrating twenty years of anger. Two decades of the baddest little foul-mouthed, middle finger-wielding Asian girl born of paper and ink, who spoke for a generation of Asian American women.

Lela Lee created Angry Little Asian Girl back in 1994 as a short video, made in reaction to some offensive cartoons she saw at an animation festival. Later, she took on the form of an online comic strip, which spawned books, merchandise, and a legion of fans -- including this Angry Asian blogger.

To celebrate these two glorious decades of anger, Lela has posted an online art show featuring some of the earliest renditions of ALAG, and the evolution of her comic strip. Check it out here. And for more on Angry Little Asian Girl, check out the website and follow updates on Facebook.

Again: congratulations, Lela. We salute you!

Chris Lu confirmed as Deputy Secretary of Labor

Only the second Asian American to hold a Deputy Secretary position in history

Confirmed. This week, the U.S. Senate confirmed Christopher P. Lu as deputy secretary of labor. Lu, who was nominated in January and confirmed Tuesday on a voice vote, previously served as Assistant to the President and White House cabinet secretary during President Obama's first term.

Lu confirmed for Labor #2; Whitaker for Colombia

Lu's confirmation makes him the first Asian American to serve in a deputy secretaryship during this administration.
